Perrysburg is a town in Ohio, United States. The population was 9,561 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lima-Canton, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name comes from the Erie Canal and its location on the southern border of Perry Township on the western edge of Highland County. The first settler in Perrysburg was James Hargrave who arrived in 1796. The township was organized on March 3, 1824 by order of Governor Nicholas Cooke. The original plat included 6 blocks square and had a total area of . When it was surveyed for a post office, it only had four blocks square with an area of . As early as 1827, there were two churches and a school in Perrysburg; one called "First Methodist." The first store in town opened around 1830 when Ebenezer Booth bought land from John Purdy for $100. A blacksmith shop followed soon thereafter and later became known as the "Hargrave Arms" store because that is how many guns Daniel Hargrave purchased from local fur traders during his lifetime. In 1840, Reverend Samuel Morse built a church at what is now corner Main Street and Third Avenue which served as both a Baptist (1820) and Presbyterian (1831) meeting place until 1861 when they merged into one congregation under Revs George Washington Hardison (1832-1911) and Isaac Hull (1835-1912). From 1827 to 1830, Ebenezer Booth ran “First Methodist” services outbuildings on present day Second Street between High Street and Masonic Avenue; these buildings still remain standing today with additions such as offices above ground level added over time including an auditorium/church hall addition in 1955 which houses public library services today. In 1847ria Wiggin started grist milling flour which led to her being renamed Mrs.(first name unknown). Wiggin operated her mill until 1865 when she sold it to Jno(last name unknown), who operated it until 1870 when he sold it to Geo(George) Parks Jr.(George Edward Parks). On January 25th 1870 Geo(George Edward Parks Jr.) paid off all his debts entered into against his father's will leaving him sole owner & operator of said millbine company Mill Creek Falls Mills Incorporated #1 v2 32nd street east side next door then Decatur Rd thence south 1/2 miles westerly along said Decatur Rd thence 2 miles northerly along said curve to site now occupied by First Presbyterian Church building erected Novbr 1918 with lot given free by Mr.(Mrs.)Wigorin also named after her mother Mrs.(first name unknown). In 1860 there were 5 stores operating within this small town with Griswold's having been renamed Mrs.(last name unknown)'s Store No 2 coming downriver about 1928 remains structurally unchanged since that time just north side alley between High & Masonic Streets
