The first settler to live permanently in what would become Perrysburg Township were George Hinkle and his family arriving in 1851; however, until 1870 only seasonal residents passed through on their way between Parkersburg or Wheeling across Summit County each weeknight during summertime because those areas were too far away for them to travel on horseback or wagon nightly during their stay hereabouts; thus Alert Township took shape immediately south thereof with just 1 house being sold thenceforth until 1880 when all township lands eastward sold at once - becoming Alert which comprised present-day downtown & much of north central side including most Temple Fenton section still outside limits excepting far northeast corner where village boundaries started forming soon thereafter

By 1900, Cleveland's population had reached 1 million people and it continued to grow rapidly during World War I since many companies located their operations in Brownsville (now Youngstown) because that area offered good access to shipping lanes through Lake Erie. The war also stimulated business growth for local manufacturers such as Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and Copley Glass Company which relocated their plants to Peru Township (now Parma). These plants produced materials for military vehicles and munitions which helped support Allied victory during World War I. After 1919, Cleveland experienced significant decline with declining industry; however, it did experience some revitalization with new housing developments beginning around 1960s suburban adjacent neighborhoods such as Northside/Kernwood/Canton Heights started growing up around downtown cores where residents could enjoy easy access to job opportunities while avoiding high prices associated with inner-city areas
