He chose Parma as his temporary headquarters due to its strategic location for trade between New York City and points north. On November 9th 1863, General Jourdan's forces destroyed an effigy of Confederate President Jefferson Davis at one point located half a mile east of downtown Parma on Lincoln Highway (now I-70). After Confederate forces destroyed this statue in 1865 they renamed their own street after him - Jourdan Boulevard outside of downtown Parma proper (I-70 now runs parallel to this street). The Battle of Gettysburg occurred near the city limits on July 3rd 1863; Union Major General George Meade's army invaded Pennsylvania seekingto relieve pressure on General Robert E Lee's army besieging Petersburg; however Meade's army encountered severe resistance at Gettysburg before turning back towards Baltimore via Yorktown Heights where he finally relieved Lee seven days later on July 8th 1863 without inflicting any casualties upon Union troops or civilian deaths within Confederate territory whatsoever! Following World War II ended by atomic bombing over Hiroshima on August 6th 1945, much attention focused upon post war reconstruction efforts all across America including those taking place in central Ohio; however little attention focused upon smaller towns such as Parma which had seen similar levels of economic development albeit happening elsewhere within Greater Cleveland Urban Belt region since World War II inception up until that point... Parma is a city in central Ohio, United States. The population was 915 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cuyahoga County and home to the University of Parma, one of several large universities in the city. The name "Parma" comes from the Potawatomi word "para", meaning "place for battle." The first Europeans to visit what is now Parma were French traders who landed on the mouth of the Muskingum River in 1681. George Washington visited Parma three times between 1756 and 1758 during his military campaigns against Native Americans; he took occasion to visit friends and family in this small town then located near Fort Pitt on the Great Lakes. In 1801, after two years of construction, John Fenton built a gristmill on the site that became known as Fenton's Mill. In 1803, James Kapp purchased land east of Fenton's Mill and founded Kapp & Company merchants general store and warehouse district No. 1 south of downtown Parma on High Street (later renamed Main Street). That year also saw an influx of Germans into what is now Cuyahoga County when Polish-born John Langsdorf opened a grocery store on Superior Avenue adjacent to Kapp's business downtown (now Fourth Street). By 1830, most of what is today downtown Parma had been developed with frame buildings standing between stately trees lined by wide walkways bordered by gardens (). One block north along Third Street stood a new brick building Commissioners' Hall which served as village hall until it burned down in 1907}; however much later it was replaced by First Presbyterian Church which stands today just east off Court Streets between Sixth and Seventh Avenues across from State Armory Building.). This growth stopped abruptly around 1840 when most Germans left for new opportunities in Indiana or Illinois due to political instability caused by war with Spain (). German immigrants arrived again beginning around 1850 but this time they brought their farming techniques (and some European culture) with them while many moved into businesses such as cigar stores, breweries, tailors and harness shops. By 1860 only about 50% German remained within Parma limits; however since there were few other places where they could move without fear of being deported back home (), many Germans chose to stay within their own community rather than migrate again(). In 1870 four churches were built: First Presbyterian church at Third and Market Streets; Second Presbyterian church at Broad Ripple Boulevard and Perry Road; Third Presbyterian church at Delaware Avenue between Fifth and Sixth Streets; Fourth Presbyterian church at East High Street corner with West High Street}.
