Parma, Ohio is a small town in the Muskegon-Lansing metropolitan area. The population was 10,553 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Portage County, Michigan-Ohio Combined Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Parma were French traders in the late 18th century. In 1792, General Anthony Wayne and his army invaded Canada and destroyed Fort presque Isle on Lake Erie. The fort's garrison, consisting of United States Marines under Lieutenant Colonel George Rogers Clark, surrendered without a fight after a two-day siege. Parma had been one of four Canadian forts that defended Detroit against American attack during the War of 1812. In 1800, John Cushman built a sawmill and gristmill on the west bank of the Maumee River south of Parma. He named it Parma Mills after his home country of Hungary. In 1824, he sold his mill to John Dolan for $10,000 cash. Dolan used it to supply flour to Battle Creek until 1830 when he merged with other mills in Clinton Township to form The Clinton Mill Company (now known as Valentine’s Mill). Dolan also developed land northeast of Parma into what is now Buffalo Township; this land was purchased from James Caldwell by Dolan in 1830 for $3 per acre ($40 per square mile). One year later, he organized Parma Township for township elections and laid out streets and laid out lots within what are now parts of Elston Heights subdivision and part of Rochester Hills subdivision today. He died in 1840 but left behind many children who continued developing lands nearby including what is now downtown Parma with its brick factory building still standing today (the building has been remodeled several times since then). In 1851–1853 Ely Swayne built a large frame academy onuda north side Of Main Street which became known as Swayne Academy which continues functioning today as Western Reserve University School Of Medicine & Dentistry located adjacent to Eisendrath Hall on Euclid Avenue between First Street West and Second Street East across from western branch library

Parma is a city in the central Ohio Valley, United States. The population was 34,845 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lucas County. The name Parma comes from the Latin word Paria, meaning "marked by land." The first European settlement in what is now Parma Township was made on July 6, 1792 by Captain John Smith and his crew of four boats when they were exploration voyages off the Virginia Coast. They landed on a sandbar near what is now downtown Parma and built their first log cabin. In 1814, the village of Parma was founded by elements of a group that had journeyed out from Toledo to find new land in central Ohio. By 1820, Parma had an population of 350 people and became a town under the guidance of Mayor James Kapp and Selectman Isaiah Hoyt. On November 11, 1821, as part of wider revisions to local government in Lucas County (then comprising only western parts of today's Lucas County), Parma was incorporated as a village with a population size limited to 100 residents. In 1840, during Indian wars between American Indians and British forces over control of territory southward along the Great Lakes watershed – including modern-day Toledo – much activity took place within what are now portions of both villages: about 20 settlers lived in what is now downtown Parma; 300 or so lived east side streets such as Main Street which ran parallel to riverfront; 500 more dwelt west side streets like Bloomfield Avenue which paralleled canal frontage until it terminated at Race Creek just northward of present day Delaware Street). On September 25th 1830 Columbus Monthly published an article entitled "A Sketchbook Of Old National Register Land lying In The Township OF PARMA Village" authored by Ebenezer Higgins who stated that part way down Bloomfield Ave., there were two old stockaded piers still standing erected about 1800 poles high & measuring 50 rods x 30 rods @ 2 feet wide each & having decks above them for defense against fraudsters etc... This then would be about one third or fourth away from where we live today! I am sure many if not all you know about this locality were either Actually born hereabouts or have relatives who did extensive research hitherabout before writing - back then newspapers could often be reliable sources for genealogical accuracy... Our ancestors must have had great pride in our town because it has been named after them since - even though some may question its historical accuracy! We can only hope these things help maintain our viability as one community rather than fall victim to history repeating itself! So began oneofParmagans longest lasting traditions-the annual parade honoring pioneer veterans marching down Main Street!. As time went on other events also grew popular such as car shows/rides/fairs etc... parades continue to this day despite objections from some who feel they take up too much street space or compete with more important events happening elsewhere on that same weekend
