The town site was surveyed by Captain John Stiles on December 1, 1800 and laid out with four streets running east–west and two north–south Streets were laid out within today's limits including present day Elmira Street between Clinton Avenue and Springdale Avenue; Third Street ran north–south between Elmira Street and First Avenue; Vineyard Road ran east–west between Third Street and Clinton Avenue . On July 14th 1802 Nathan Knoppers purchased from George Meigs a tract bounded by Watertown Road onthe south side thereof; Maple Grove Road aforesaid southeast corner thereof ; Second avenue eastward from currently Vineyard Road thenceforth along WatertownRoad to Meetinghouse road thence northwest to where Meetinghouse road intersects Maple Groveroad ; Third avenue southwesterly from current Maple GroveRoad thenceforth along Meetinghouseroad to WatertownRoad It should be noted that this early map does not include any neighborhoods such as Oak Lawn or Mayfield today located within present day Parma boundaries
