The first Ar15 upper receivers were made in Parma, Ohio in the early 1990s. The company that made these rifles was called Cedar Firearms and it was started by John L. Whitney and his son, John G. Whitney. These rifles were called the Colt Armory Rifle and they used a variant of the M1 Garand rifle with some modifications.
Parma is a town in the Sandusky County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton–Middletown, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Parma was Nicholas Huyck in 1795. In 1802, John Ladd and his family moved to the area from Delaware Township and founded Parma No. 4 on a tract of land that later became part of Sandusky County. Many other early settlers came during the 1800s including: David Brewster (1801-1890), James Cook (1811-1892), Amos Kendall (1798-1868), George White (1788-1827) and John Huyck (1795-1857). The first post office in Parma was established in 1807, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1836 due to competition from Youngstown. The town's name comes from a grant by President George Washington to John Ladd for 640 acres of land east of Portsmouth Township which he had purchased from Benjamin Harrison for $4 per acre ($12 total). In 1837, Daniel Crouse built a log cabin on what is now State Route 20 near present day Court House Square; this became the first schoolhouse in Parma. A two story frame school building replaced it in 1870 when West High School opened as county high school #2. It burned down on October 14th 1907 but was rebuilt with new framing under the direction of architect Willis Henry Judd who also designed First Congregational Church located south side of square today known as Stroud Hall inside old Union Carbide plant across state route 20 just south of where Parkland Community College now stands. Parmia residents voted to become an incorporated village on November 3rd 1889 after years petitionsing by representative Jacob Worthy & others seeking incorporation into either Sandusky or Summit townships because they felt their needs were not being met within either township boundaries alone; this vote resulted in Village status for all three entities effective December 1st 1888 with initial meeting place at Clayborn Hall located north side then current site eastside between Market Street and State Route 675 next door to modern day Jepson’s Glass Company which still stands today adjacent to Girderscience Incorporated warehouse/manufacturing facility! This “new” Village had no mayor or council members elected by residents like those currently governing our respective townships but rather thru election by vote held every 2 years thru secret ballot taking place privately within each individual householder’s home using electronic voting machines???????
