Painesville is a small town in Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census. Painesville is located on the east side of the Scioto River and is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. Painesville's ZIP code is 44115. The first settler in Painesville was James Winchester who came from Putnam County, Connecticut in 1788. He purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) of land on the Scioto River east of present-day Painesville from John Dickson in 1800. In 1812 he married Anna Maria Pickering and moved to his new home which he named "Winchester Manor". In 1821 he sold his holdings to Joseph Ladd and James Winchester again bought 640 acres (248 hectares) on the Scioto River east of present-day Painesville in 1825 for $7000USD. He continued to live there until his death in 1868 at age 73 years old. His wife AnnaMaria died in 1840 at age 66 years old. They had six children: James Winchester Jr., Mary Winchester, Julia Winchester, Anna Maria Pickering Houghton, John Henry Ladd III, and Emma Dean Houghton Pacelli Prentice). Joseph Ladd also developed a mill here which served as a source of water for many residents until it burned down in 1902. The community received its current name from George Washington Bridge which crossed the Scioto River just north of where Ladd's mill now stands; painewsi@email4ucom visited the bridge on July 10th 2009 and found that both sides are still covered with graffiti from when it was used as a commercial landmark by locals during prohibition era days! In 1865 Adam Weiser started operating an ice cream store called "Weiser's" across from what is now known as Bishop's Park Cemetery after purchasing property along with other farmers near what today is Village Square mall off Irving Road . Ice Cream wasn't invented until 1886! By 1899 Weiser had removed most all trees except two maple trees near where they stand today because they were too close to power lines! A post office was established here on November 3rd 1870 by General Nathan Bedford Forrest withPainesville being added to his name nine months later on December 12th 1870 under operation #492 Please give feedback if you have any additions or corrections to this paper - I am compiling information while working on my own papers! In 1898 Wm Maudslay built a sawmill here but it closed one year later due to competition from a larger sawmill operated by Jenson & Sons downstream at Canfield Dam upstream about 15 miles away! Eventually another sawmill opened up next door but that mill closed as well within 5 years due to lack of market demand!!! The only thing left standing behind Wm Maudslay's mill are some foundation stones that provide evidence that their building once stood!! The first automobile dealershipever opened up herewas run by Ephraim Neeley Jr./Neely Motors out of an auto garage located just south (west?)ofpresent day Village Square mall !! In 1916 Alfred O'Neill opened up an auto parts store opposite what is now known as Bishop Park Cemetery !! Today Alfred O'Neill Blvd runs paralleltonearly every streetin village square!!!!!!!!!!!!! From 1916 thru 1978 painfulesville had its own radio station WKRP-FM which broadcasted programming throughout central OH !(now WWJZ)-also knownas Trib Total Radio)! NowadaysWKRP-FM airs programming originatingfrom Toledo ! Presentlythe station simulcastsprogramming originatingfrom Cleveland via WWJZ!!!!!!!!! The area now known as Painesville was once part of the much larger village of Delaware. From this point on, primary industry rapidly shifted from agriculture to manufacturing; but there never really was anvil factory in Painesville until 1940 when Joesphine Wirth opened her soon-to-be famous factory on Main Street (now Erie Road). During World War II, many Germans who had been displaced during World War I settled here and began production of munitions plants such as Poteet & Sons Paper Company and Weyershaeuser Chemical Works. After the war ended there were large waves of Polish immigrants moving into what is now Painesville as well. Many businesses closed up shop during this time due to high unemployment levels among all demographics within the town proper - however some managed to keep going thanks to innovative marketing techniques like ' sponsored shopping '. This period also marked some major changes for painesville with incorporation becoming possible through township board action rather than via referendum as it had done previously . Finally in 1969 when statehood passed both Ohioans voted overwhelmingly against it giving rise to current tensions between homeownership rates within townships vs statewide averages . Despite these recent setbacks local politicians continue working hard to maintain social services such as libraries and parks while also investing heavily in new infrastructure like Interstate 75 which has made access easier for locals ever since.
