The Ohio Knife Company was founded in 1869. It made kitchen and hunting knives, as well as types of camping and fishing gear. The company was acquired by Bayonet knife company in 1927. Bayonet merged with DeWitt ClintonKnives in 1937, which became the Toledo Blade Corporation. In 1947, Toledo Blade merged with Dalles Cutlery Company to become the Dalles-Toledo Cutlery Corporation. The company ceased production in 1985.
Painesville is a town in Sandusky County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. Painesville is the only municipality in Sandusky County. The first Europeans to visit the area were Frenchmen in 1795 and Dutchmen in 1800. In 1804, John Cranch bought of land from the Miami tribe for $1 million. He named his new township after himself and placed it on the east bank of the Scioto River. In 1836, Painesville became part of Mahoning Township. However, because Mahoning Township extended over both sides of the river, it never received its own post office until 1840 when it was moved to Painesville proper and given a postal name. In 1868, George Atherton founded what would become Jardine Rubber Company on land that he had purchased from Miami man Joseph Purdy. The company became one of the largest rubber companies in America and developed products such as tires and kerosene tanks. It employed up to 1,000 people at its peak during World War II. Jardine Rubber Company closed in 1957 but continued to be headquartered in Painesville until 1978 when it relocated again to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania under a new parent company name but with continuing ties to Jardine Rubber Company through joint ownership by both families until its closure also in 2007). In 2002 Widespread Bicycles began manufacturing bicycles here starting out small but gradually expanding into larger factories throughout northwestern Ohio making bikes for more than 100 countries around the world including Utopia Cycles which still operates out of headquarters today! Painesville's rich history can be seen all around town - from downtown with its colonial architecture dating back to 1800s; to Fourth Street full of businesses dating back to 1830s; even down Fourth Street where now there are several restaurants (including Bush's), hotels (including Regency Inn & Suites) and bookstores (such as Barnes & Noble) along with several acres remaining undeveloped rural land which could house another community if desired!

The population declined during the Great Depression and World War II; however, it increased again following the war and has since grown Bashar into one of America's largest community colleges. Painesville was a center for agricultural production until after 1945 when larger plants were built in other towns across Ohio and Pennsylvania. Manufacturing now accounts for most of the town's economic activity with a major employer being Buick Motors Corporation which moved its operations to Painesville from Flint in 1984. Painesville is a village in the process of being annexed by Cleveland. The village was founded in 1830 as part of the Toledo Purchase and it was named for General Anthony Wayne, who died in 1812. Painesville became a town in 1849 and it was renamed for Senator James K. Polk in 1903.
