Painesville is a small town in Northwest Ohio on the border of Michigan and Pennsylvania. The population was 9,500 at the 2000 census. Painesville is located on the eastern edge of the Unigin Lakes National Recreation Area. The town was founded in 1819 by farmers from what is now West Lafayette, Indiana, who built a cabin on a hill in what is now Painesville Township. The first post office was established in 1824. By 1830, there were twenty-one residents living in Painesville Township and two settlers living in what is now Muskegon Heights Township. In 1836, painters James Aiken and George Stephenson came to Painesville from Aurora, Illinois to sell their painting supplies to local farmers and build a business selling paintings door-to-door. Stephenson later became mayor of Painesville with help from Aiken. In 1850, John Hickey opened a restaurant called "The Hickey House" near where today's High School stands. It became known for its excellent food and service. In 1865, the Muskegon County Courthouse (now part of Glassport Community College) was built as part of an effort to increase courthouse activity in rural areas outside Detroit because that area had been destroyed by fire seven years earlier while the county was being built along the River Rouge line east of Lansing. The building served as court house until it burned down in 1929; however, parts still stand today and are used as classrooms at Glassport Community College. From 1870 through 1925,Painesville had its own school district which provided education for children up to age sixteen years old within one mile (1 km) of each home or farmhouse; this system continued until 1932 when it merged with nearby Middletown Township's system after complaints from parents about poor teaching quality at their children's schools within one mile (1 km) of their homes). In 1905 President Theodore Roosevelt made his famous speech "This Land Is Your Land" at Washington & Erie Railroad Depot next door to today's High School premises where he outlined his vision for American land ownership which included developing land north of I-90 including present day Muskegon Heights Township and parts of neighboring villages such as Northville., Bellefontaine Heights., Thornhill., Wexford Hills., Elkhart Lake Village., Southfield Center etc.; this event helped promotehoodofthe United States following ratification by Congress of amendments giving Americans more control over their property holdings through communalism/selfreliance concepts likerugged individualism via agitation among yeomanry/citizens during Progressive Era era [1880 - 1920]."

Painesville, Ohio is a city in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 26,724 at the 2010 census. Painesville is the second most populous municipality in Lucas County after Ashtabula. It is home to the University of Toledo and has been a center for research in medical marijuana since 1998. The town of Painesville was platted on November 3, 1814 by Jonathan Dayton and others as a hunting ground for settlers who had come overland from Pennsylvania. A post office called Painesville was established in 1825, and remained in operation until 1873. The first settler to arrive in what is now Painesville was Isaac Goodspeed. He built a cabin on the banks of the Wabash River near present-day Saginaw Street and named it Prairie du Chien. In 1828, John Fenton purchased land east of downtown Painesville and began building a gristmill that he named Fenton's Mill because he owned all of the land within its boundaries. In 1830, Fenton married Susannah Beattie (1802–1888). They operated the mill until their death in 1888; their children continued to operate it until 1954. In 1840, Nicholas Biddle erected an independent log cabin on his farm northwest of town; this became known as Biddle's Cabin later that year when Jno. Biddle moved into town from nearby Minerva Township and added his name to it . In 1845 local resident David Small founded what would become known as Small's Drugstore & Store which ran afoul of prohibition during the early years of liquor control before becoming an open-air drug market several years later under pressure from state officials . One small village store stood through Prohibition but failed when prices went too high relative to other goods available inside Prohibition-controlled areas; another small business opened shortly thereafter but failed due to competition from larger stores stocked with legal supplies smuggled into enforcement zones by smugglers working for law enforcement personnel outside those zones . By 1919 there were only four businesses remaining operating within downtown Painesville: two grocery stores operated by Mable Robbins & Co., one druggist operated by Wm Hickey & Sons run out of an old house at 8th and Centre Streets which also served as Community Bank headquarters until 1953, and one general store conducted general merchandizing operations out front with several bodegas located around back where produce was sold alongsideways from meat products such as pork chops etcetera
