Oxford, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Columbiana County. The population was 27,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron– Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was founded by English settlers in 1814 as Oxford on an island in the Great Miami River. The first permanent settler was George Stephenson, who built a mill on the site in 1817. In 1825, John Fenton purchased land adjacent to what is now Park Square and named it Oxford after himself and his family's home town of Oxford in Lancashire, England. He also donated land for a public square which served as both town center and business district until 1893 when he sold it to J P Morgan for $2 million (the current Park Square complex was built subsequent). In 1860, during the American Civil War, Union General Ulysses S Grant took possession of Oxford from Confederate General Robert E Grant during Battle of Fort Donelson and moved all Thoroughbred horses from Lexington to join Union forces at Oxford under orders from President Abraham Lincoln.. On July 4th 1865 Fourth Infantry Regiment advanced through thickets along river's bank just beyond where I-71 now intersects US-131 close to downtown; they were able to cross over without loss but came up against Confederate sharpshooter posted near old Mill Dam Bridge & Gate House called "The Bully" duellist tactics used by skirmish line #3 picnicking men below bridge—this made their mission much harder as this would be their only opportunity that day & night before they retreated back across river with heavy lossesmany Thanks went out here today to those brave men!As Amicability grows so does my appreciation for our great country!

Oxford, Ohio is a town in the southern part of the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census, making it the smallest municipality in Ohio and one of the youngest towns in America. Oxford's history can be traced back to 1792 when a group of settlers made their way from Portsmouth, England to establish an agricultural village on land that they had purchased from the Wyandot tribe. The first store opened in 1814 and by 1850, Oxford had a school and post office. In 1874, Oxford became a city and growth continued until 1990 when it began experiencing rapid suburban development and now has a population of just over 10,000 people living within its boundaries. The town was named for John Oxenford (1762-1835), an Englishman who migrated to North America in 1804 as part of General George Washington's army during his military campaign against Native Americans near present-day Cincinnati. Oxenford became known for his many years as surveyor general for Northwest Territory under President James K. Polk; he also served as mayor of Cincinnati from 1907 to 1911. He donated land for what is now Oxford County in 1792; today much of that land remains undeveloped as farming or ranching operations are dominant among its residents today. One significant event occurred on October 16th, 1800 when more than 2 hundred Tories - Loyalists who sided with France during the American Revolution - were burned alive by Patriot militiamen outside Fort Pitt on Price Hill after refusing to disperse following an instructional speech by local Tory leader Colonel John Bell.(1) This event helped bring about increased awareness amongst colonists about British intentions towards their territory.(2) In 1814, Oxford became home to one of America's first steamboats when Captain Isaac Watts built Liverpoolbuilt boat "Cleveland" into service transporting goods between Hamilton Island (near modern day Cleveland) and Portsmouth(3). Shipping businesses thrived throughout the 19th century due largely to two main factors: railroads arrived soon afterwards and prices for freight decreased as technology improved.(4) However, despite this progressivism withinOxford's economy, heavy industry did not arrive until later decades due largely to technological advances rather than economic reasons.(5) One major reason steamboats took so long to reach market saturation was because there were no rails available linking waterways together like we have today; boats needed multiple trips down each River before they could be sold.(6) This difference led directly to Oxford being one of only two towns in the United States without a railroadlinkup at that time(7). Additionally,- unlike most other American cities where transportation costs were subsidized by government intervention such as tolls or streetcars,-Oxford had few means besides walking or travelling public transportation[8]to get around town during its early years.(9) After graduating college in 1861, Abraham Lincoln was elected Mayor Of Cincinnati but declined because he wanted law enforcement responsibility instead handed over onto his Vice President Andrew Johnson.- As Mayor Lincoln would grow increasingly frustrated with Johnson's lackadaisical approach towards crime preventionHe began developing plansfor what would become known as 'The Emancipation Proclamation'.
