Oxford, Ohio is a city in the United States. It was founded in 1824 by James K. Polk and named after the University of Oxford, England. The population of Oxford was 41,821 as of the 2010 census. The town lies along the southern border of Clermont County, Ohio, on the Scioto River. The town was originally located on land that now forms part of the University of Cincinnati campus. In 1824, when James K. Polk became President of the United States and traveled to England for an academic visit, he decided to name his new city after one of Britain's most prestigious universities—the same university where he had studied law under John Marshall. Oxford quickly grew as a center for learning and commerce, and in 1830 it became a municipality with its own government. In 1871, when Clermont County was created from parts of Lucas County], Oxford annexed part of it and became its independent municipal government again; but since then it has been only an adjunct or subsidiary member thereof (inferior) within Cirrus Township Unincorporated Area which is classified as being under jurisdiction thereof by both townships because they share common borders Oxford always maintain close relations with its sister town Clermontville—a stringency not found in other large U.S cities where annexation has occurred The current Mayor is Marty Bigham

Oxford, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Tuscarawas County. As of 2010, the population was 58,651. It is the most populous city in the tri-state area and second largest in Greater Cleveland after Cleveland Clinic, with a population of over 1 million residents as of 2019. Oxford was founded by Welsh miners in 1779 as Bothell on high ground just east of present-day downtown. The name "Oxford" was chosen because it sounded like "Oxfords." The first permanent settler in Oxford Township was John White in 1812. In 1815, Hugh Lawson organized what became Muskingum County from part of Stark County and Oxford Township to become one unit with a government that would be more accountable to him and his constituents than either Stark or Muskingum Counties had ever experienced before. The town's first buildings were logs built that year at Fenton Hill on the corner of West Main Street and East State Street; they served as courthouse, jail, post office, schoolhouse (now known as Griggs Auditorium), storeroom and social club until they were replaced by brick buildings in 1824–25. The original town meeting house still stands today on Third Avenue between College Road (now US 15) and Elmira Road (now US 238). In 1827–28 an act was passed which provided for township elections annually but only for citizens who could afford to vote; property owners not able or unwilling to vote were disenfranchised for four years beginning January 1st following their next annual election date regardless of changes made to their township boundaries since then – until those boundaries changed again pursuant to an act passed by Congress on November 3rd 1830 which reorganized township voting districts within each congressional district thereby giving all citizens residing therein voting rights regardless of residency elsewhere within those districts also subjecting them thereto once again if they desired so at an annual election even though such suffrage could only be exercised by males twenty-one years old or older who resided within six contiguous miles thereof whereof three must reside owning real estate valued at $50 per acre or less yielding one half share out any land worth more than $500 per acre having freehold tenure forever when purchasing such lands; excepting Indians wigwams erected upon hunting grounds under special permission granted them by treaty negotiations between Great Britain and the United States wherein no white person had EVER seen nor dwelt there without special license from both Parties duly obtained; Provided further That nothing herein shall prevent any individual enjoying full civil equality with others under law without forfeiture thereof should he neglect or refuse suddenly to assemble with others lawfully entitled thereto assembled together against his will anywhere within this limits aforesaid while hunting game respecting which privilege provision has been made hereafter providing he appears before proper authorities sporting rifle & shotgun at least twelve months past every year
