Oxford is a town in Trumbull County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,890 at the 2010 census. Oxford is the county seat of Trumbull County. It is part of the Akron–Muncie Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to set foot on what is now Oxford were Native Americans. In 1797, David Wilkinson and his wife Deborah bought land in what is now Oxford from the Shawnee Nation for $2,000. They built a log cabin there and named it "Oxford." In 1861, the United States Congress created the township of Oxford to be within Columbiana County and renamed it Oxford Township. The township had two villages: Oxford and Milford. In 1912, the township merged with Milford Township to form new Oxford Township.
