In 1865, two brothers named John Cavanaugh and James O’Brien purchased land east of town from John Wills [5], which lay within what is now Cleveland County. These men developed what would become one of Ohio’s major towns –Cleveland – on their property[6]. This development led to increased traffic along State Route 1 which greatly impacted the viability ofOregon as a small townsite.[7] In 1922, statehood was granted to Oregon; however, it did not include Cleveland because it felt that this part ofOhio should have been given greater autonomy than other rural counties[8]. A variety of industries have thrived in Brownsville over the years including retail trade (including KFC), auto parts manufacturing (including Buick) sporting goods store chain JW Lewis,[9] real estate development (including several homesheets throughout history), agricultural production (farming operations such as corn ethanol production), professional sports teams (such as the Cleveland Cavaliers) and more recently bitcoin mining operation [10][11][12][13][14] . Today Brownville continues to be an important junction for transportation between central Ohio and southeastern Michigan due largely to its location just outside Lima Heights Township limits
