Oregon, Ohio was named for the Oregon Trail, which ran from California to Illinois. The area now includes parts of Ohio and Michigan. In 1805, Captain George Vancouver explored the Northwest Passage and named what is now Portland, Oregon after his exploratory vessel HMS Discovery.
In 1811, a group of Swedish immigrants settled in what is now Cincinnati. They found land on the Scioto River and founded the city of Cincinnati in 1815. The firstKnives dinner was held at this location in 1892. The Cleveland-based knife company H&B Cutlery began manufacturing knives in 1903 in Toledo, Ohio. H&B became known for its high quality knives until it merged with Emerson Knives in 2000.
In 1906, a man by the name of John Latham discovered an ancient stone axe blade at Nantasket Point near present day Portsmouth, Rhode Island. This discovery led to the founding of Stone Age Industries Incorporated as a manufacturer of prehistoric tools and artifacts including axes and spears dating back to about 10,000 BC. "Stone Age Industries" Buddhist scriptures dating back to 4th century BC were also discovered during excavation work on this site. As word spread about these finds (and others throughout eastern Ohio), Knife Manufacturing Company was formed to develop a market for these unique products.
James Burtonshaw opened Knife Manufacturing Company’s factory on Euclid Avenue in downtown Cleveland in 1912 as one of the largest knife manufacturers east of Chicago.

Oregon, Ohio was one of the most important U.S. states in the 1800s because it became a part of the United States after the Mexican-American War and was given to Oregon by Mexico. The Oregon Territory was named for George Custer, who died in 1876 during the American Civil War. The area now known as Ohio became part of Indiana in 1801 and then Kentucky in 1802. In 1803, Ohio passed an act joining with Michigan to form the United States of America and Oregon became a part of that country. The first white humans to live in what is now Oregon were Native Americans who lived near present day Portland and Vancouver Island before Europeans arrived in 1692. In 1768, British explorer David Thompson discovered Vancouver Island and began trading with the native people there. When he returned to England in 1771, he’d found an island with three small villages on it that he called “Victoria” because Queen Victoria had been visiting Britain at that time. The name “Oregon” was chosen by General George Rogers Clark after consulting with other members of Congress about which state would be best suited for their new nation – Washington or California – but no decision was made until after his death in 1805 when Alexander Hamilton recommended Columbia River as the site for a new capital city due to its strategic location on a route linking East Coast shipping centers with Western markets (the Burr Trail). When Lewis & Clark reached Independence Rock on July 4th,1807 just south of what is now downtownPortland they were able to map out all future western United States including what is now Oregon and parts of Idaho, Nevada and Arizona

The territorial boundaries of Oregon were defined by the Treaty of Fort Laramie in 1847 which transferred land east of the Cascades to Washington Territory and west of the Snake River to California Territory
