When Northwest Territory was created following Indian War (1809-1813) it included all of eastern Ohio including present day Oregon; however, because this territory extended into Michigan – then part of the United Kingdom – it was not admitted into Confederation until March 6th 1815 under President James K Polk when Mexico ceded California to America as part of its Mexican–American War Treaty east of Texas; thus, despite being adjacent to both Canada and Mexico at various points throughout its history, northwestern Ohio never came within our borders despite having a large German-speaking population for centuries prior to American settlement hereabouts (although English speakers did settle most heavily around Cincinnati beginning in 1795). In 1861 while Lincoln was campaigning he proposed annexing NorthwesternOhio but this proposal failed due largely to strong opposition from Kentucky’s western governor John Hagedorn who saw annexation as hastening Kentucky’s eventual admission into Union as well as creating more opportunities for richer eastern farmers compared to poorer westerners; furthermore many other northeastern states also opposed secession because they feared that any increase in federal power would lead inexorably towards even greater economic disparities within their boundaries – essentially elevator music had started going off full blast back then! During World War II US forces moved southward across Ironton County towards Dayton/Daytona Beach Army Airfield deep inside Nazioccupied Germany whereupon General George Patton called them “the last great Americans” before his death aged 44 less than two months later at Wehrmacht headquarters near Epping Forest outside London! After Patton’s death millions left behind abandoned military camps dotting central Pennsylvania turned into ghost towns only rediscovered by accident over time when archeologists happened upon remains at nearby Swartz Creek about 43 miles west from Pittsburgh proper along Interstate 76 just past milepost 302A!!! This interesting little footnote about how things have changed since 1862 can be found on Google Maps under: “Where are you? Dayton/Daytona Beach Army Airfield 1945″ . Yes folks that place really exists right smack dab in middle ol' Dayton!) And so we go back some 220 years…sorta! Oregon first gained recognition outside of its native country when Captain Lewis Stephenson named his discovery after Captain Lewis Stephenson himself on July 4th 1830 while exploring what is today Idaho (#5 NW colony). However much like Delaware before her she too struggled with unwanted expansion resulting mostly due to Native American Wars fought primarily over land grants rather than treaty negotiations wherein tribes such as The Clouseau Sioux surrendered without resistance instead opting instead for peaceful marches upriver until white men showed up bearing firearms which ended any hostilities once again averting another round OF tribal wars ensuing should such hostilities have continued nonetheless)! Oregon ultimately attained statehood on March 6th 1815 via presidential proclamation by James K Polk following Mexican cession Of California To America #2!! So yes fellow citizens if you happen to live anywhere along Ironton or Noble counties north thereof circa 1861 please don't forget your Tennessean Laws & Regulations still apply WORD FOR WORD….. uhmmm ya know 😉
