In Oregon, the first gun grip was patented on July 4, 1857 by George Stephenson. The patent describes a design for a pistol grip that is now known as the Stephenson grip. This design uses two circles of metal (or wood) that are joined together at their center and then bent back to create a “U” shape. The first firearms in Oregon were handguns. Oregon, Ohio was made a part of the United States of America on January 15, 1847. It was named in honor of George Washington’s native state, Oregon. The area that now makes up Oregon and Ohio had been part of the Northwest Territory since 1793. When the Northwest Territory was divided into two parts – Western Oregon and Eastern Ohio – on February 14, 1846, Oregon became a part of Western Ohio. In 1850, when Indiana gained independence from Great Britain, it too became a part of the United States. This gave both Oregon and Ohio their current borders. Oregon has a rich history dating back to its early days as an American settlement. The first permanent residents were the Chinese who arrived in 1848. They set up shop around what is now downtown Portland to trade goods with the Native Americans who lived there then and also to farm land that they acquired through purchase or purchases from other settlers. By 1860, about 20% of allOREGONians were Chinese-born; however, this number had increased to 50% by 1920 due to immigration from China during World War II. The town of OSWEMIA (now PORTLAND) was founded by Captains John Cline and James Fenton in 1851 as a stop on their journey westward overland from Cincinnati via Missouri City into Texas territory then under Mexican control

Oregon, Ohio was organized on February 14, 1837. The land for the new county was donated by George Washington and a group of farmers from Delaware County. The first election in the new county took place on March 4, 1837. The first settler in Oregon, Ohio was John Wilkinson.
