Oregon, Ohio was part of the United States of America from 1776 to 1877. The state was named for the first European settlement in what is now Oregon, by Spanish explorers on July 4, 1776. The area that became Ohio was part of the Northwest Territory known as the Indian Territory until it was admitted into the United States as a state on March 1, 1803. The land that would become Oregon and Ohio were acquired through Purchase from the Native American nations.
