In 1826, a man named Amos Kendall built a new telescope at Norwood High School which is still in use today. By 1830, there were several businesses inNorwood that were selling telescopes including Dr. Job’s Optics Shop and Mr. Holmes’ Store. In 1831, James Fenton erected a large Telescope House on what is now State Route 422 north of town. The first scopes available for sale in Ohio were made by Frenchmen named Dreyfus and Caudouin who arrived in America in 1794. These telescopes were called “telescopes à rayures rouges” (red circles) because they had iron eyepieces and could only be used along certain lines of sight due to their blue coloration (pictured below). During this time period, many people located around Norwood started buying or building telescopes to use at home or while traveling near things like planets and stars! By 1840, there were several stores/establishments scattered throughout town that sold scopes! It wasn’t until after President James Kapp purchased some land east of town between Third Street and Fourth Street that he decided to build a permanentObservatory! This structure was completed in 1849 and is still standing today!
Norwood is an unincorporated community in Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 408 at the 2010 census. It lies along the east bank of the Scioto River. The first settler in Norwood was John King who moved there in 1827 from Dublin, Ireland. He founded a log cabin on a small stream near present-day Norwood Lake. In 1830, he and his family removed to a gristmill site on the Scioto River about east of present-day Norwood. There they built a new cabin and started milling flour for local markets. The King family remained in business until 1874 when they sold their interest to Elisha Stevens who operated it for 33 years before selling it to Fenton Wirtz in 1921. Wirtz also owned the adjacent farmstead where he raised chickens and pigs until his death in 1954. After Wirtz's death, the property passed through several hands until it was purchased by James Aiken in 1979 and later by his daughter Linda Aiken Kapp; both families continue to live on it today (see map). Norwood is located at (41.824389,-81.614643). According to the 2000 census, its population was 408; however, this figure may have been lower because some residents did not respond to surveys taken during that year or because ofGhosts sightings around Norwood which has led some people to believe that there are still living people resident there despite no evidence of that being so
