Norwood, Ohio is home to the Norwood Rifle & Pistol Club. The club was founded in 1892 and has continuously been active in firearms and history. In 1886, the Norwood Rifle & Pistol Club donated a rifle to the city of Cleveland for its police department. This donation made Norwood one of the earliest gun clubs in Cleveland. The Norwood Rifle & Pistol Club also donated two pistols to the city in 1907 and 1911 respectively. These donations were part of a larger effort by the club to help support local gunfights and protect citizens from crime. In 1833, both Butt and Richardson died; their towns merged into Norwood with Butt as its first mayor. The first school was opened in Norwood in 1850 by Mrs. Elizabeth McNamara and taught grades one through twelve; tuition cost $5 per student per term (equivalent to $). In 1870, Jno.[Weeks] Hewitt purchased land east of downtown for a new courthouse and school district which became known as "Hewitt's School District". After World War II when schools were integrated across America's cities', Hewitt's School District became Cleveland Heights-Hewitt Park Schools - meaning that all students from kindergarten through grade 12 attend one central location (which has since changed again). Norwood started off as just a small agricultural community with about seventy inhabitants; however, over time it grew rapidly due to its natural resources: coal mining began here during the mid 1800s and continues today although less economically lucrative than other areas around Cleveland because of transportation costs involved extracting coal from under groundvelds up to 100 miles long and more than 1 mile deep AdditionallyNorwood has been a manufacturing center for many years with heavy industries including aluminum production until recently but increasingly becoming an information technology center due to advances made in computing technology throughout Greater Cleveland Norwood also has strengths in architecture and engineering groups such as Schempp & Sons Electric Company which manufactures electronic equipment until recently but increasingly engages in design work for new housing projects nationwide including several high rise office buildings now located within walking distance of each other on Euclid Avenue called "The Towers" Also notable are two large shopping malls - One anchored by Sears Canada outside of downtown while another anchors Regal Cinemas within walking distance - both featuring large anchor stores giving residents easy access to everything they need without having to go out .
