The Norwood Rifle Company was founded in 1892 by three men who had been friends for years. The company became a manufacturing powerhouse and exported rifles to many countries. In the 1930s, the company shifted its operations to Cleveland, Ohio, but continued to make rifles until it closed in 1984.
Norwood is a small town in the southwestern part of Ohio. The population was 1,887 at the 2010 census. It is located in Lucas County. The Norwood area was settled by pioneers in the late 18th century. In 1824, John Ransom came to Norwood from Clinton Township and started a sawmill there. He and his family went on to be some of the biggest landowners in the area. In 1842, James Sayers land grant was made to him and others for farming purposes; it covered . Norwood began growth after settlers arrived in the area during the 1830s. A school was established here in 1840, but it closed due to lack of funding two years later. A store opened here in 1846 and continued operations until 1957; it is still open today as an independently owned business known as "The Shop." Norwood became a borough in 1903; it reverted back to its original township form two years later when all but one of its members resigned from incorporation into Lucas County because they objected to having their names attached to a new municipality built within sight of them on their property without their consent or input! It wasn't until 1907 that Norwood got its first water system - which consisted of lead pipes running through private homes! In 1928, Norwood became home to America's first fire department - which then served as a model for many other towns across America! Today, Norwood has several professional sporting teams (including three NBA teams), five churches (including one with national recognition), four schools (two parochial and two public), three daycare facilities, and over 100 apartments/houses! Norwood, Ohio was a small community in Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 553 at the 2000 census. It is now part of the unincorporated community of Kettering. The first settlers in Norwood were John and Rebecca Goode who arrived in 1817. They were followed by their six children: John, Jr., James, Jeremiah, Hannah (Fenwick), and Obadiah. By 1840 there were only 10 residents living in Norwood; by 1860 it had diminished to 8 residents. In 1892 the local school district merged with the Medina County School District to form the Medina-Norwood Local Schools District. In 1923 this district was renamed the Norwood-Kettering Local Schools District and then again in 2003 as the Orchard Township Local Schools District. According to an article from 1945itled "A History of Norwood", one of the early pioneers in Norwood was Drury Green who settled there on a farm near what is now Kettering after moving from Cincinnati in 1811. He operated a practice for many years before dying in 1886 at age 96 years old. His son Daniel also built a home here and became involved with health care until his death in 1978 at age 92 years old ranger service staff member for many years for Medina County Park
Norwood was founded in 1801 by Nicholas Norwood and his wife, Susannah. The town became a village in 1829 and it was chartered as a city in 1836. The city was renamed Norwood Heights in 1902. In 1932, the City of Cleveland merged with Norwood Heights to form the current city of Cleveland.
