Norwalk is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio, and the seat of Lucas County. The population was 452 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton–Muncie metropolitan area. Norwalk was founded in 1824 as a tract of land on the Scioto River east of what is now Akron, by John Norwalk and his brother George Norwalk. In 1830, it became part of Summit County; but because it lay within Summit's borders, Summit never granted town privileges to Norwalk until 1853 when they did so jointly with Painesville. In 1854, Norwalk was made a Village through an act of the General Assembly; and in 1860 it had a population of 350 inhabitants. On February 13, 1865, during American Civil War skirmishes near downtown Norwalk between Union troops and Confederate forces under Brigadier General Nathan Bedford Forrest (1821-1900), two citizens were killed and six wounded by Confederate sniper fire from nearby buildings while walking home from market; this event became known as "The Massacre." On November 3, 1865, Congress passed an act annexing Lucas County to Ohio (the first such annexation since 1792) which created Cleveland Township; on December 15th that year Bridgeport Township also joined its ranks making up what remained of eastern Summit County after it was split along racial lines following The Battle Of Greenville between Unionists and Confederates). On January 1st 1870 Parkersburg Township formed from parts of Bridgeport Township northeastward along the Scioto River until just eastof today's norwalksite replacing what had been Storeystown Creek plus portions of Ackermannstown Township lying southwesterly adjacent to today's Cuyahoga Falls suburb before finally reaching today's west side where it joins Little Miami River just upstream from downtown Toledo proper - all except for Ackermannstown which continued to form part parcels southeastward comprising Richland Hills township until joining with present day Mentor Heights in 1925 On October 10th 1930 new city boundaries were approved by voters resulting in incorporation as Norwalk with 462 individuals living there according to 2010 census estimates The population has grown steadily over the years with more people moving intoNorway each decade Census Estimates show that by 2020 there will be 513 residents living inNorwich
