Norton is a small town in the western part of Ohio, located about 30 miles east of Columbus. The population was 7,912 at the 2010 census. Norton is one of the oldest communities in its area and has been around since 1814. The original settlers were Quakers who arrived from Pennsylvania in 1814. The first post office was established in Norton on October 3, 1815. It was moved to its present location on Main Street in 1865. In 1907, the community became a city when it split from Unincorporated Norton Township. The Norton Fire Department was founded in 1906 and continues to serve the community today. The city also has its own police department which provides law enforcement services for the city as well as county service for those within unincorporated Norton Township. In 1990, Nortons first African American mayor, Ronnie Lunsford, was elected after running an aggressive campaign that included billboards throughout the township reading "Who's Next?" He served two terms until his retirement in 2002. Since then, two other African Americans have been mayors: Nancy Boice (2008-2013) and Timothy Dolan (2015-present). Dolan is currently serving his third term as Mayor and is considered to be one of Dayton’s most progressive voices on issues related to economic development and education reform within city limits

In 1945, Winchester introduced its Model 755 sniper rifle which was designed specifically for assassination purposes or tracking down enemy troops at long ranges. It featured a telescopic sight that allowed users to target specific individuals with ease and could fire continuously without stopping until it ran out of ammunition. In 1957, Firearms Standard Incorporated patented a lighted pistol grip weapon called the Colt 45 which quickly became popular among handgun enthusiasts across America due to its simplicity and inconspicuous appearance onureaucratic uniforms. By 1959, there were over 2 million Colt 45s being manufactured worldwide! The popularity of handguns led to an increase in violence rates throughout America during 1960-1964 which was dubbed "The Gun Control Wars." Norton is a town in Morrow County, Ohio, United States. The population was 4,948 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. Norton was platted in 1814, and named for Major General Jonathan Norton who fought in the War of 1812. The first settler in what is now Norton was James Fenton and his family, who arrived in 1796. Named for Major General Jonathan Norton, it wasn't until 1830 that a post office called Norton was established. In 1881, the namewas changed to Norton after George Witherspoon Norton II who served as Governor of New York from 1881-1885 and earlier as Ulysses S Grant's Secretary of War from 1865-1869. In 1907, eastern Morrow County became part of the new state of Ohio; concurrently with this change in county boundaries, Nortonsouthwestward boundary remained unchanged (it being then located within Morrow County proper). At the same time that Ohio became a state, northerntowns like Nortonsouthwestward were transferred to Medina Township within Columbustown Township (now Copley Township) within Trumbull Township (now Delaware Township), creating what is now known as Delaware Valley Council District No. 1 which included much of northeastern Morrow County including Nortontown east of I-71 and most of northwestern Columbustown Township west thereof; all southern parts remaining with Trumbull township were annexed into Medina Borough within Columbustown Borough during annexation process which also resulted in creation of new boroughs – Trumbullborough (northwestof I- 71), Delaware Valley Council District No. 2 (southcentralColumbus), and Harrisonburg Heights (northernmost portionsof Trumbulltownship)). Development along Route 422 ensued quickly due to its proximity to major markets - both Columbus and Toledo - while other rural areas around the town slowly transitioned into agricultural production following World War II including Heywood Manufacturing Company on Main Street near where Interstate 81 crossed Route 422 roadway today known as Evergreen Mallards Park Shopping Center/Mallard Place developed by John Pritzker followed by Alliant Techsystems on former farmstead site now home to Alliant Energy located adjacentto Novell Incorporated upon its acquisition by Dell Technologies in 2006-. Today's downtown area contains many businesses such as GEO Group LLC., Bank One Community Bank & Trust Co., Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company/, Chiappa's Pizza & Pasta (), The University Of Dayton School Of Business (), Sears Holdings Corporation (), Kroger Co., Peoples Drug Mart (), Papa Johns Pizza (). Many residents are employed by these companies or do some form of business employment outside their homes thanks to excellent transportation options available through Routemaster Bus Lines ()and UDOT's Butler Road Expressway (). Residents also enjoy excellent schools options available through Univision de Dayton School Of Dentistry ()and Akron Children’s Hospital (). In addition there are several parks dotting our community providing plenty opportunities for recreation such as Don Bosco Catholic Church ()opened in 1926 and existing natural gas wells nearby provide additional resources for energy generation/.
