In 1882, George Norton opened a shooting range in his hometown of Norton, Ohio. The Range was originally located on the north side of town and was known as the "Norton Rifle Club." In 1951, the Range was moved to its current location on the east side of town. The original building still stands and is used as a museum today. The first target holders were made from wood and metal poles that were stuck into the ground. These targets could only be hit with rifles that had a muzzle velocity over 400 feet per second (150 meters/second). By 1896, there were also target holders made out of cloth and plastic materials. By 1912, metal target holders had become common and by 1916 they had replaced wooden targets as the standard for shooting at ranges in Ohio. By 1922,allowances for rifle calibers other than .30-06 were allowed on some ranges in Ohio. This led to the development of sniper cartridges such as 6mm Remington Magnum (6x57mm) which could be fired with rifles up to 700 yards (500 meters). Sniper rounds became popular among gunners during World War II because they offered an increased distance at which they could shoot without fear of being shot down by friendly forces or enemy snipers. By 1959, NRA guidelines called for all rifle ranges to use paper or plastic targets instead of metal ones so that shooters would have more control over their shots when firing at long distances. Today, many NRA member clubs continue to use paper or plastic targets despite NRA guidelines no longer allowing them to use steel targets at their ranges.

Norton is a town located in the Athens County, Ohio region. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. Norton was platted in 1809, and named for General James Wilkinson, who fought in the American Revolutionary War. The first white settler in Norton was Samuel Dyer. In 1812, General William Halleck ordered all white men out of Ohio except for about 20 cavalry soldiers to protect settlers from Native Americans. This order led to a race-battle that resulted in the death of three whites and one Native American. Afterward, the general ordered all Indian families removed from the area and began building farmssteads near what is now Norton. By 1830, Norton had a gristmill, sawmill, and post office. In 1833–34, George Washington Dixon built a small log cabin on an old mill pond east of town center which became known as Dixon's House Museum (later renamed museum). In 1836–37 storekeeper John Grosse built a frame courthouse on his property south of town square which served as the first courthouse in Athens County. The present courthouse was erected in 1907 by local architect Aiken Whittemore after he purchased it from Dixon’s widow. In 1840–41 when Athens County was divided into two portions due to boundary changes caused by the Mexican-American War, Norton became part of Athens Township (later called Dublin Township). In 1865–66 when Athens Township was disbanded due to county reorganization following annexation by Middletown Township (later called Newark), Norton rejoined Athens Township as its own entity with a new courthouse and jail within its limits; however this facility ceased operations around 1870 due to lack of funds or neglect by township administrators. For many years there were no schools in Norton although students would attend nearby Middletown Elementary School until 1945 when it closed because Ofsted inspectors found sustained problems with discipline among schoolchildren there combined with poor teaching conditions across most categories including math skills and reading comprehension skills—praising Middletown for having made "the biggest change" yet within their system during that period while also admitting they could have done more to improve conditions there overall since then but chose not do so because they did not want any negative reputation attached to them locally; finally becoming self-contained again starting with grade 9 through 12 starting in 1978 under principal Donny Sutcliffe.) In recent years much progress has been made both physically and academically throughout parts of downtown where businesses arettes such as JB's Pizza & Wings (originally just Jimmy's), Dunkin' Donuts & More (.com), Subway sandwich shop (), KFC (), Papa John's Pizza (), Chick-fil-A () & Wendy's (). There has even been some development taking place on land adjacent to Wittemer Golf Course which will see apartments/condos constructed soon upon approval from city officials awaiting zoning changes permitting such development.—The community has had some tough times recently though largely due primarily to joblessness rates among older adults (−10%) coupled with young adults (+20%) who are unable or unwilling either startup businesses or find jobs outside their homes.: Most residents remain friendly despite these challenges despite high unemployment rates.: One recent project planned for Norton is an arts center which will house live theater performances along with classes leading up thereto.,

Norton, Ohio is a town in Wexford County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Norton was first given to the community by John Norton, an early settler. The town plat was adopted on December 12, 1836 and named for George Washington Norton, one of the original members of the Ohio General Assembly. In 1837, Norton became a stop on the Underground Railroad as it passed through his property. In 1851–1852, after the fall of Mexico City and its aftermath of war and chaos across America that followed, Norton's post office became known as "the place where mail came from Mexico." During World War II (1939-1945), many local businesses were involved in manufacturing munitions for the U.S. military including Winchester Repeating Arms Company; Consolidated Aircraft Corporation; American Motors; and Allied Signal Company among others. Many residents also worked in these factories during wartime with various jobs coming and going but they all maintain their connection to Norton through their cultural experiences here or visits back home over those years - something that cannot be said for other communities in Wexford County during that time period
Norton was founded in 1826 by John Norton and his wife Deborah. The first post office was established in the town in 1828. In 1868, the town became a member of the Ohio State Senate. In 1924, Norton became a city.
