Norton, Ohio is a small town nestled in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. It has been known for its Shooter Eye Protection history dating back to 1884 when two men, George and John Norton, opened the first shooting range in this community. Today, Norton continues to be a center for shooters throughout the United States and Canada. The Shooters' Protective League (SEC) was founded in Norton in 1984 as an effort to provide safe place for shooters across the United States. The SEC helps promote safe shooting practices by providing education and support to member clubs across the country. In addition to providing safety resources for shooters, SEC also provides legal advice and representation to members who may have issues with law enforcement or other firearm-related activity. Today, there are over 1,000 member clubs worldwide that participate in SEC services. These organizations provide training opportunities for members on how to safely shoot at ranges and other outdoor environments. Additionally, many NRA affiliates belong to SEC groups which offer similar educational opportunities as well as support through lobbying efforts on behalf of firearms regulation reform. In 2017 alone, there were multiple tragedies occur within shootings events taking place all around America due to low levels of security measures often employed by venues hosting these events such as facility failures or inadequate signage pertaining to firearms usage/handling being conspicuously absent or not properly enforced by event organizers/staff alike( e .g., Douglas County Shooting Range fatalities). As a result of this heightened concern surrounding shootings events across North America (and globally), numerous jurisdictions have enacted stricter gun control laws specifically targeting shootings events held outdoors including pass-thoughlaws such as those recently passed in Utah following the Sutherland Springs Massacre; New York City's Mayor Bill de Blasio has called for increased funding for mental health programs following mass shootings; Australia has announced plans to implement metal detectors at all public entrances into their nation's capital cities; California Governor Jerry Brown has proposed expanding background checks on handgun sales statewide . . . etc.).

Norton began as a halt on the Great Lakes Railroad in 1836 and has since been an important center for agricultural production and manufacturing. In 1957, Norton became home to the world's first electronic store when Radio Shack opened its doors there. Other major manufacturers that have headquartered in Norton include Jardine & Co., Solutron Corporation, and Ford Motor Company.
The first settlers to Norton, Ohio were the Holland family. The father of the Holland family, John Holland, came over with his family in 1795. He and his wife, Rachel, started a farm on the east side of Norton. They soon had two children, John and Susannah. In 1809, the Holland family moved to what is now known as Delaware County. They farmed there for many years before selling their land and moving to Norton in 1825. The Holland family left a lasting impact on Norton because they were instrumental in starting the town and helping it grow into one of the most important communities in Ohio.
