Norton is a town in Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,693 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Norton was founded in 1811 as a small village on the Scioto River. In 1834, it became the independent town of Norton Heights and then Norton before becoming a part of the larger city of Dayton in 1907. In 1933, Norton Heights became its own separate municipality again and in 1965 it merged with neighboring Centerville to form what is now known as Norton-Centerville Township.

Norton Creek was originally known as "the Little River" because it drained into the larger "Great River" about two miles to the east. The name changed when – following Indian Removal – part of Muskegon County became part of Indiana Territory and then Illinois Territory. The creek's current name comes from an early settler's daughter who spelled her name "Norton." By 1836 there were 127 settlers living in what is now Norton Township; by 1850 there were just six residents remaining due to lack of available land or migration away from political instability in Michigan Territory caused by canal fever outbreaks that year. In 1853 Nortons first school opened up under contract with Griggsville Township for five months until December 25th when NorthernMichigan Union Academy moved into their own building on Main Street which still stands today as one of only four schools functioning inside Grand Rapids Public Schools boundaries between 1975-2018; Griggsville Agricultural School closed in 1963 according to documents preserved at Ionia County Historical Museum district website . At this time most students attending public schools within Muskegon Heights School District attended Northern Michigan Union Academy while those residing within Griggstown Township went to either Eastern High School or Detroit Female Seminary depending on family income at that time (according to data maintained by district). It wasn't until modern times however that we began seeing truly incredible feats from opticians. In 1899 Italian astronomer Giovanni Battista Ricci started working on an instrument called “La Navetta Rossa” which allowed him to measure changes in brightness over time due to weather conditions on earth! He also pioneered photography with his camera obscura which permitted him capture images without having any light shining into his lens! Norton is a town in Licking County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. Norton is named for Nicholas Norton, an early settler. Norton was founded in 1814 by Nicholas Norton and his family. The first store was built on the present site of the current courthouse in 1816. In 1827, John Wirtz bought land adjacent to Norton and developed it into a town. Wirtz renamed the town Norton after himself in 1829. In 1830, General James Buell landed at Newark Bay on Lake Erie and marched through Norton on his way to Fort Meigs near Cincinnati. A group of citizens met him there and asked him to stop and rest before continuing his journey northward. He agreed and ordered one of his aides, Colonel John Chilton, to build a cabin for Buell at Newark Bay so that he could rest andlihood find food for his army upon their return trip home that evening. The fort served as headquarters for much of Ohio during the war with Mexico from1846-48; it also served as a popular tourist spot until it burned down in 1865 during Union occupation efforts in central Ohio following the American Civil War. Buel was able to rebuild Fort Meigs nearby and moved back into Cleveland after hostilities ended but left behind some artifacts which are now exhibited at Wesleyan University’s Anthropology Museum located near downtown Cleveland The town lost its main commercial center when Interstate 47 bypassed it east-west in the late 1970s leaving only scattered businesses along Main Street serving what were once largeopen fields now used as parking lots or residential developments .
