He and his family built a cabin on the east side of Norton Creek and named it "Boone's Cabin". A post office was established at Norton in 1830, and the first mayor of Norton was James Broughton. In 1857, John Sargent platted what would become Norton Township on land that he had purchased from David Trimble. At that time, there were only 10 residents living in town proper and 5 people living off of farm land within its boundaries. In 1903, merger between Clarke County (containing Athens) and Athens County (containing Wrightstown) created Dayton Township which merged into Cincinnati Township on January 1, 1907 pursuant to an act passed by the General Assembly of Ohio on December 20th (the "Municipal Consolidation Act"). On February 14th 1910, Noble Hines donated land comprising present day parts of northside village of Grandview Heights to Toledo State Teachers College for use as a teacher training school football stadium; this donation is also significant because it marked one-third of all university lands given away during that period by trustees or other private individuals for use by public institutions such as Olmsted Foundation Universities throughout America." On October 15th 1921 when Ohio statehood came into effect following ratification by voters statewide*, Harding Park School District No 2 opened its doors with 204 students grades K-8; this marks when schools serving rural areas started opening up near larger urban centers like Cleveland or Columbus as classrooms became available at more reasonable prices thanks to state funding via legislation known as "artery program".
