Norton is a city in the Northern Ohio region of the United States. The population was 3,868 at the 2010 census, making it the smallest city in Ohio. Norton's boundaries are almost identical to those of Cincinnati, with one exception: Norton lies on the east bank of the Great Miami River and is surrounded by Hamilton County to its south and west. The first settlers in what is now Norton were Quakers who had emigrated from Pennsylvania in 1795. They built a small cabin on a bluff overlooking the river where they spent their winters. In 1814, General George Washington founded Fort Pitt on this bluff and named it after his army general friend and fellow Quaker John Forbes, who had fought for Washington at Yorktown. The fort served as a military post until 1821 when it was destroyed by Native Americans known as The Musketeers. In 1837, Norton became part of Hamilton County and was then known as "Nortonville". By 1840, however, Hamilton County had grown too large for Nortonsville so it was renamed Norton again. In 1854–1855, two-thirds of all grain production in America went into shipment through Nortonport which made it one of America's largest port cities during that time period. During World War I (1914-1918), over 1 million men worked at various munitions plants located throughout Nortonsville including many at North Park Ammunition Company which manufactured shells used in World War I; also located here were Bethlehem Steel Company’s foundry plant (now Knoppers) and National Machine & Tool Co.'s machine shop (now J&J Milling). After World War II ended there continued to be heavy industry with companies manufacturing automobiles (Ford Motor Company), trucking (Chrysler Corporation), electronic equipment (Litton Industries) and other products such as plastics (Fritos) in addition to food processing plants like Winchester Foods Incorporated today called Parma Foods Group plc., producers of Indian meal cereal products since 1886 After nearly fifty years serving as an agricultural center for rural areas surrounding Cincinnati proper until becoming exclusively urbanized about 1960 due to suburban growth within commuting distance; much progress has been made since that time including several high profile neighborhoods - most notably Parma Heights - being established around major arterial streets providing more downtown businesses having access thereto without going far out into residential neighborhoods

The Norton community is located in the northwestern corner of Ohio, within the town of Norton. The communities of Norton and Linton were merged to form Norton in 1871. The first settlers in what would become Norton came from Nottingham, England in 1794. The first post office was established at Nashua (now Northboro) in 1800, and when the United States became a country it consolidated all its local offices into one location on the banks of the Muskingum River. The name for this new headquarters was "Norton". In 1834, John Sprague built a grist mill on his farmstead northeast of present-day Norton. This mill continued operation until 1900 and produced flour, feed, and other items for local residents as well as export to other countries. In 1868, James W. Hance formed a partnership with George Linton to operate a sawmill on the south side of the river near where today's store stands. This mill continued operations until 1958 when it closed due to health concerns related to asbestos exposure. In 1865, three men – Hiram Sitton (1824-1908), Edward Barnes (1827-1915), and Solomon Morse (1829-1920) – purchased 640 acres northwest of present day Norton from Parmelia Tilton for $1 million dollars (). Their purchase included land that straddles both banks of the Muskingum River opposite Northboro (). They named their new community "Norton" after their home town in England (). The original village consisted of just 10 homes (), but by 1870 there were over 100 people living in Nortons () including many farmers who grew crops such as corn, beans, wheat, rice, potatoes, applesauce, etc., along with some businessmen who manufactured goods such as saddles and harnesses; others made carpentry products like woodturning tools or door hinges; still others raised horses or cows; while some families ran small businesses providing food services like laundry or bakery; most importantly though they all enjoyed good quality lifestyle - access to water supply from underground springs which served their gardens as well as cultural experiences ranging from cricket matches played outdoors between neighborhood boys before dinner to concerts given at nearby Lancaster Hall each summertime
