Norton, Ohio is a town in Morrow County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,613 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Morrow County. Norton was founded in 1827 by Colonel George Wilkinson and his family. It became a city in 1907 and was named for Simon Norton, 1st Baron Northumberland. In 1928, it merged with neighboring Ironton to form the larger city of Norton-Ironton. In 1827, Colonel George Wilkinson and his family founded Norton on the east side of present-day Morrow County as a stop on their way from Boston to Toledo (then called East Liverpool). They named their new town after Simon Norton, 1st Baron Northumberland who had lived there earlier that year. The first store in Norton opened on May 20 of that year. By 1830, the town had a population of 100 people and two stores. In 1833, when Ironton was established nearby on the Scioto Riverbank adjacent to what is now downtown Norton-Ironton, its founders decided to name their new community after Ironton too; this decision resulted in an overlap in naming between these two towns until 1914 when they separately took separate names again: Ironton and Norton-Ironton respectively. On January 1, 1907, both cities amalgamated into one under the name of "Norton". This merger occurred because northerners were growing increasingly discontented with their smaller neighbor's lack of variety or growth within its borders while easterners were migrating southward seeking opportunities for themselves and their families among other places like Cleveland or Cincinnati which already had large populations thanks to immigration during that time period Besides geographical differences such as size (northeastern vs southern) there were also social ones as well: Northerners felt they had been left behind by Emancipation while easterners saw progress being made even though some areas still needed more work done such as infrastructure development (such as sewers) whichoutherners largely accepted without complaint Lakeside Avenuerunning through central downtown Nornorto pedestrians running up & down itand children playing near Griggs Alleywere all part of everyday life until cars arrived & obliterated much if not all rural life

The first store was built on the corner of Main and Depot Streets in 1807. In 1830, a post office called Norton was established; it served until 1907. In 1838, a school was built near the intersection of Depot and Main Streets; it remained in operation until1912. In 1850, a brick church was built on what is now State Route 675; it remains in use today. A cotton gin was erected at Norton in 1865; it continued to be used until 1908. In 1870, a railway station called Norton Station was opened; it served as a stop for passengers travelling from Toledo to Akron and vice versa. By 1923, the population of Norton had increased to over 1000 people. In 1929, an oil refinery called Newark Oil Products Company (now PennEnergy)was constructed at Norton; it continues to be used today.
