However, recent efforts by Downtown Dayton Incorporated have begun seeing some redevelopment activity with plans currently underway for a mixed-use development comprising office space along One hundredth St., hotel rooms/condos along State Route 523 eastward towards I-71(), retail along Elmwood Avenue southward towards Fourth Ave., and residential units above ground near Seventh Ave.; work on this project is scheduled to begin late 2019/. Accordingly, norton has experienced dramatic change over its history: From being primarily rural farmland attached toDayton township through annexation intoCincinnatiduringthe 19th centuryto becoming oneof NortheastOhio’s most diverseand vibrant cities based largely around its large numberof professional sports teams – including four NFL franchises – since 2001!
Norton, Ohio was first settled in 1795 by John Norton and his family. The community was named for General George Washington. In 1814, the United States bought the land from the local Native American tribe. It became part of the Harrison County Territory in 1815. The county seat was moved to Dayton in 1821, after the territory was divided into two counties. In 1827, Norton incorporated as a town. It remained an unincorporated community until 1895, when it became a city under the name of Nortonville.
