Norton, Ohio is home to the world’s largest gun magazine. The Norton Gun Magazine was founded in 1887 by John Norton and his wife Eliza. It is one of the oldest magazines in the United States and has been published continuously since then. Today, Norton Gun Magazine publishes over 100 issues a year and employs over 400 people. It provides an outlet for firearm enthusiasts of all ages and levels of experience, as well as information on firearms and ammunition. In addition to its print magazine and online presence, Norton also operates three stores across the state: one in Youngstown, one in Cuyahoga Falls, and one in Cleveland.

Norton, Ohio is home to a long and storied gun magazine history. The city was founded in 1824 by Methodist missionaries, and served as the headquarters of the Ohio Wesleyan Church until 1868. Gun magazines were first produced in Norton during this time, and it’s been said that guns were so popular there that the town became known as "The Gun Mecca." Some of the first gun magazines in Norton were The Rifleman (1836-1838), The Daily Dispatch (1839-1841), and The Cincinnati Gazette (1842-1845). In 1847, the first printing press in Ohio was erected in Norton, and beginning in 1849, local newspapers published periodicals such as The Northern Journal (founded 1848) and The Banner (founded 1850). In 1861, after Union soldiers sacked Norton during the American Civil War, local residents formed a militia to protect their homes. This led to the founding of the Norton Volunteer Cavalry Regiment within two years. Afterward, rifle magazines continued to be produced here until 1865 when they were replaced by shotguns. In 1865-1966, local printers published an annual tabloid called The News Tribune which was printed on newsprint laid down at Manchester Mills. It was later supplemented with weekly issues before ceasing publication altogether in 1978. Today's edition of The Northern Journal is one of only a few remaining print publications from those early days of gun magazine production in Norton.
Norton is a town in Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Norton was founded by John Norton in 1824 and named for him. The first store in Norton opened in 1827. In 1830, the first post office was established in Norton. In 1852, it became a town and remained so until 1955 when it became an unincorporated community again under state jurisdiction. The Village of Norton merged with the Town of Berlin on December 1, 2009 to form a new city-county government. This merger relieved the Township of Berlin from any administrative duties within city limits and gave Norton greater independence as its own municipality. As a result of this changeover, many services now come directly from the City Council which meets monthly instead of once every two weeks as they were before. Norton is located at (41°28′27″N 89°49′45″W). According to the USGS National Geodetic Survey, it lies on top of what has been called "The Great Lakes Plateau". A small area lying eastward below village boundaries includes parts of Delaware County and Muskingum County; these are included within city limits because they support economic activity that would be outside of their rural borders without such co-operation between municipalities (e.g., transportation).[1] However much land remains rural to this day: about 60%[2]of residents live on or immediately adjacent to farms or landowners who provide most all food production; only about 10%[3]of people lives in cities.[4][5] The median home value stands at $118,[6] making it one of Dayton's more affordable areas for housing options especially given its size and concentration within urban cores around downtown Dayton and other major metropolitan areas including Columbus OH., Cincinnati OH., Cleveland OH., Pittsburgh PA., Erie PA., Buffalo NY., Rochester NY.}

In 1840, "Guns Illustrated" began publication which quickly became one of the largest and most influential publications for guns and ammo ever created. The magazine continued publishing until 1975 when it merged with "Smithsonian". Today, "Guns Illustrated" is still published monthly online and is considered a leading authority on firearms topics across the web

In 1865, Norton became a state of the United States and has since been considered an important center for education and industry. Norton is also home to two congressional districts: one represented by Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) and another by Rep. Steve Chabot (R-Ohio).
