Norton, Ohio is a small town located in the southwestern corner of Holmes County, Ohio. The population was 1,847 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Mentor–Zelzow Micropolitan Statistical Area. Norton was founded in 1811 as a post office and has been continuously inhabited since then. It became a city in 1907. Norton is located on the eastern border of Butler County and is bordered by Delaware to the east, Clinton Township to the north, and Brooklyn Heights to the west. The first settler in what would become Norton was Hugh Norton, who arrived from Ireland with his family in 1836. He built a cabin near present-day Newark on the Scioto River. In 1840s he started trading with Indians and selling goods along the Scioto River. By 1850 he had two stores and about 20 people living in his community. In 1852 he sold his land to John Fenton for $1,000 cash; it later became part of Delaware Township. In 1907 when Dayton became an incorporated town it annexed parts of Butler County including Norton as well as portions of Clinton Township (now known asBrooklyn Heights). That year also saw construction on what would become Nortons main business district: The Northern Trust Building which remains one of its most recognizable landmarks today across downtown Dayton still standing

Norton was a small town in central Ohio, United States, located on the Scioto River. It was founded in 1814 by James Norton and his family. The first store in Norton opened in 1819. In 1830, the town acquired its current name of Norton after Commodore John C. Norton, who fought against Mexico during the Mexican–American War. The population of Norton declined from around 1,000 in 1800 to about 200 by 1860; however, it grew rapidly following the opening of new mines and mills that developed around thetown. The growth caused several banks and businesses to be built along State Street between 1836 and 1840; these were followed by two churches (the First Baptist Church built in 1838 and the Methodist Episcopal Church built in 1850) and a school (built in1851). By 1870, there were 9 stores, 8 churches, 5 schools, 2 post office buildings (one added later), 4 housing developments (including one known as Park City), and 3 manufacturing plants (two silk factories and one shoe factory). In 1930-31, Nortons had a population of 547 people living within an area including 597 acres of land which included part of what is now Akron. During World War II., over 100 local men served in military service including 40 residents who enlisted December 10th 1939 as day laborers at General Motors plant west End Unit #2 earning $3/day
Norton was originally a small community in what is now the city of Cleveland. It began as a farming community and during the late 1800s, Norton became an important manufacturing center for the region. In 1915, it was renamed to honor Commodore George Norton, Jr., one of America's most distinguished naval commanders. In 1939, Norton was again renamed to honor its founders, Theodosius Eaton and James H. Norton after they were elected sheriff and treasurer of Cleveland respectively. The town continued to grow and by 1969 it had a population of over 100,000 people. In 2001, Norton merged with neighboring townships to form Cleveland Township.
