Norton, Ohio, is a small city located in the heart of the US Midwest. The population was 3,532 at the 2010 census and it is home to the Norton Gunsmith Shop. This gunsmith shop has been in business since 1892 and has been known for its firearms accessories and clothing. In 1916, The America Tobacco Company (ATC) moved from Cincinnati to Norton and started manufacturing cigarettes here. At first they produced only cigars but soon began producing rifles and shotguns as well. The Norton Gunsmith Shop became one of the largest firearm dealers in Ohio when it opened its doors to customers on November 6, 1916. It was through this store that American Rifleman magazine first published an article about how to purchase a rifle or shotgun in Ohio. The Store also sold ammunition and other related supplies. In 1927, ATC merged with Philip Morris USA (PMUSA) and NortonGunShop became part of PMUSA’s NRA subsidiary – NRAO Incorporated. However, guns still continued to be sold at NortonGunShop until 1984 when it closed its doors permanently due to financial problems within PMUSA itself. In 1992, Crescent Firearms Corporation bought out PMUSA’s NRAO Incorporated assets including NortonGunShop and reopened the store under their own name with an inventory of firearms items only. Since then, Crescent Firearms Corporation has been continue operating the store as a full-service firearm retailer with knowledgeable staff who can help you find just what you need for your firearms needs!

It was founded in 1801 by General George Rogers Clark and named for him. In 1830 Norton became part of the Northwest Territory and in 1836 it became part of the Indiana Territory. In 1848 it became part of the Union State of Ohio. In 1912 Norton was renamed to Nortonville after its founder, General George Washington Norton Jr., one of America's most famous generals during the American Revolution.
