When the Ohio Company was formed in 1792, it had one purpose: to open up new land in the Appalachian Mountains. The company had difficulty finding a partner and decided to sell its interest in the Northwest Territory to Pennsylvania. However, when that deal fell through, Ohio decided to form its own company and enter into a contract with Congress for a certain number of rifles per day. The rifle contracts were due out on July 1, 1800. But on June 27th, 1800, while President James K. Polk was attending a meeting in Nashville TN., he received word that China had opened hostilities against America by shelling American ports and Columbia River crossings. This forced the president to adjourn his meeting and order an immediate military response which would last until September 8th when he ordered another conference with Congress to try and resolve the issue. On September 8th, 1800 – just days after President James K. Polk’s attempt at mediation – Congress passed an act giving John Adams the authority to declare war on China if they did not stop their shelling of our ports or rivers (they continued even after this). This gave us our first legal justification for waging war on China (although there are many other reasons why we might have done so). In 1801- 02, US forces invaded Canada trying to free United States sailors held hostage by Canadian forces at Sackets Harbor as part of Treaty of Ghent; this failed because Canadians were too strong for US troops combined with lack of supplies from U.S.-controlled America during that time period

Norton was founded in 1824 and named after George Norton, an early settler. The city began as a small town on the Scioto River near its present location. It grew rapidly through annexation of neighboring towns during the late 19th century and into the early 20th century. In 1920, Norton became one of only two cities in Ohio to be granted local charter status by the General Assembly. The city's first mayor was Wm. Hynes. In 1940, when Columbus became the capital of Ohio, Norton became part of that city's internal-district government and remained so until 1984 when it formally reverted back to Medina County control under a new form of government called "internal-district government 2". On July 1, 1984, both cities were combined into one municipal unit with a single mayor and councilmember system under which all municipalities are subordinate to their respective urban centers within each district (the "municipal unit"). On November 3rd 1990 residents voted by referendum to secede from Municipal Unit 2 and become an independent community known as "Norton Independent School District" (NISD). The vote occurred due to dissatisfaction with how Municipality Two operated while still subordinating both Newark Township and other smaller municipalities within it without any real say or power in regard thereto; specifically lack of representation on authority committees which made decisions affecting all aspects of municipality life including budgets; lack of autonomy when making zoning decisions; unequal application for state funding; among others
Norton, Ohio is a small town in central Ohio. The population was 7,013 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Middletown, OH metropolitan area. Norton was founded in 1824 by General James Wilkinson as a stop on the route of the Western Reserve Expressway. The community name originated from one of its founders, Major George Norton. In 1830, Norton became a village and in 1834 it became an incorporated town. The original courthouse was built in 1835 and still stands today. The community has experienced many growth opportunities over the years due to its location within easy commuting distance of major cities like Cleveland and Akron as well as its strong agricultural base which produces hay and other livestock products.
