In recent years there have been efforts made by residents to revitalize their community by creating events such as arts festivals and carnivals throughout the year as well as hosting public meetings on various topics related to downtown redevelopment plans.

Norton, Ohio is a town in Morrow County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,717 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Middletown, OH–KY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Norton was Nathaniel Norton and his family who arrived in 1792. They were among the first to settle in what is now Morrow County. In 1816, they erected a cabin on an old Wayne County farm which they named "Norton". The village became a town on December 1, 1826 when it was incorporated as a village by an act of the General Assembly of Ohio. The village had a total population of 559 people. The township formed from parts of Morton and Union Township on November 3, 1868; Norton being one of its initial members. On February 15th 1906 annexation by Summit City made Norton an official city within Summit Township limits with a population of 10,000 people. However this annexation was repealed by referendum on May 14th 1912 because residents did not want their city to become part of Summit City proper which had already attained that status as an independent municipality with its own government and police department
Norton was founded in 1812 by Nicholas Norton and his brother, Silas. The first post office at Norton was built in 1814. In 1826, the town of Norton was incorporated. In 1850, the population of Norton reached 1,000 people. In 1863, the town became a village and in 1865 it became a city.
