Norton, Ohio is a small town in the Sandusky County seat of Sandusky. The population was 1,624 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metro Area. Norton's history dates back to 1868 when two settlers named Hargrave and Storey built a cabin on what is now Norton Road. A post office was established in 1870, and by 1880 there were ten residents in the community. In 1902, homesteading began in the community, and by 1910 there were twenty-one residents. By 1920, Norton had a blacksmith shop and one grocery store. By 1930 there were thirty-six residents; three businesses operated in Norton during this time: an ice cream parlor, a blacksmith shop and a post office. In 1938, Norton became an incorporated town with a meeting house and five streets as its first major arterial corridor. In that year it also became home to its first airgun club which met at First Baptist Church for target practice from then until 1951 when it moved to the local high school where it meets today (it remains open to members). Airguns played an important role at this early stage of Norton's history as many people here enjoyed using them for self-defense or target shooting competitions during open season hunting seasons while still being able to legally purchase firearms without any background checks or registration requirements." The community experienced some growth over time as more families arrived looking for homes in this rural area outside of Dayton proper (the city had begun expanding rapidly eastward into Sandusky County). However, due largely to World War II service members moving into the area after getting out of combat roles - including many veterans who returned home with shotguns - gun ownership increased only marginally throughout the war years according to most sources (although increasing numbers of women enteredinto gun ownership following wartime emancipation)). However by contrast during peacetime Gun Ownership rates decreased gradually but steadily throughout much of America as stricter federal regulations against firearms spread like wildfire across both political parties nationally following World War II". The NRA meanwhile moved aggressively into attempts to re-educate Americans about Second Amendment rights through public relations campaigns aimed at influencing popular culture/opinion along side efforts by state legislatures around the country (euphemistically known as "legislative action" these days)"). Finally effective regulation finally took hold following decades of incremental changes culminating in passage of landmark legislation such as Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act ("Brady") on WednesdayApr 16th 1994 just four weeks before Columbine High School tragedy began..... thus effectively ending almost fifty years worth of effort by NRA & other anti-gun zealots towards controlling Americans' Second Amendment rights".

On November 15, 1881, Norton was chartered as a city by Ohio General Assembly resolution. In 1907–1908, Norton became the first municipality in Columbiana County to be granted water rights from the Scioto River. The city built a water plant and began supplying its residents with drinking water from the river beginning on July 1, 1908. The plant remained operational until it closed in 1978; since then it has been used as a local park. In 1916 (the centennial year of Columbus), Norton became one of two towns in Ohio to be awarded permanent status by President Woodrow Wilson; this distinction made it one of only five cities in U.S. history to have such status at that time In 1940–1941 during World War II Norton played host to world's first airshow at Wright Field which included aircraft from all over America includingarmy planes and bombers performance wings
