The town has experienced several significant changes over time: It gained city status in 1907; it lost its city status in 1973; it regained city status in 2002; and it now has full municipal control over its own government as a result of a 2009 referendum vote. One important aspect of local history is that many early settlers came from British Columbia or eastern Canada specifically for religious reasons: Many people believed that direct contact with God could be found only through religious experience and missionary work among Native Americans living on various reservations east of the Great Lakes region (such as Wyandotte County). Consequently, many pioneer families brought their religion with them when they arrived in northwest Ohio during this period – something which can still be seen today among some residents who were raised within Christian households but have since left those faiths behind for various reasons including personal change or spiritual exploration (i.e., seekers).
The city of North Royalton was founded in 1812 by a group of Ohio pioneers. The town grew rapidly and soon became an important center for trade and industry. In the 1830s, North Royalton became a major center for abolitionism and its citizens were known for their passionate support of the cause.
