North Royalton, Ohio is a town located in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 3,951 at the 2010 census and 4,244 at the 2016 census. North Royalton is part of the Dayton–Middletown Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1824 by George Washington Morrison and his wife Rebecca as a place to raise corn for their farmstead on Delaware Creek. In 1830, Morrison and his family moved to what is now North Royalton and began growing wheat, oats, barley, potatoes and other crops. The first school in North Royalton was a log cabin that was built in 1831 by Reverend Drury Horsfall. A frame schoolhouse was erected in 1835 and renamed Highland School after local landowner John Highland who donated land for the building. In 1865, General David Logan set up Camp Logan north of present day North Royalton to supply rebels with food during the American Civil War. After the war ended in 1865, most of Camp Logan's equipment and supplies were sold off or used to build homes around town. A small portion of Camp Logan still remains today as Pioneer Hall housed on Main Street from 1889-1991 when it served as a community center for local businesses which until then had been housed inside Campbell’s Department Store on Elm Street which also served as an annex to Local Schools (now known as FirstEnergy Center). George Washington Morrison died unmarried in 1840 leaving behind five children: two boys (John and James)and three girls: Nancie (born about 1827), Martha (baptized November 6th 1830), Elizabeth (born December 24th 1833). George Washington Morrison's widow Rebecca married Samuel Hickson on October 25th 1840 making them both citizens of Ohio having migrated there from Kentucky prior to their marriage James Horsfall became coachman at age 10 years old while John Horsfall became carpenter while Samuel Hickson worked odd jobs including being foreman on a sawmill near Lima before becoming an insurance salesman later that year .
