North Royalton is a town in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Muskingum County. North Royalton was founded in 1824 and incorporated as a village in 1828. It became a town in 1902. The current name for North Royalton comes from its location on the border of two counties: Muskingum and Medina counties are to the north and east, respectively; so "Royalton" was chosen as the name for the town because it is near both places. The first settlement in what would become North Royalton was made by pioneers who had started west from Canton about 1800. They named their new community after King George III of England who granted them land on which they built a cabin and began to grow crops. By 1824, these early settlers had developed a small village with three stores, four homes, and five schools. In 1828, when Muskingum County formed, North Royalton became one of its original townships; it remained so until 1952 when it became part of Medina County through an annexation process that replaced Scioto Township within Medina County with similar boundaries. In 1902, however, due to changes in state law that applied only to municipalities rather than individual townships or villages (and not counties), North Royalton regained its own municipal status and adopted its present name – North Royalton Township. Today's residents are composed mostly of descendants of those who settled here during previous eras; there are also some recent arrivals from other parts of Ohio and Michigan who have joined the community over time. As such, there is strong cultural evidence that many people have lived here for more than sixty years or more! There are several businesses located throughout town that cater specifically to this demographic: retailers like KMart and Sears have been around since before anyone even thought about shopping online; while numerous restaurants offer everything from burgers to sushi all under one roof – something that really doesn't exist anywhere elseabouts! North Royalton is a town in Cass County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,737 at the 2010 census. North Royalton was founded in 1814 by settler John Newton and his family. It became a village in 1835 and an incorporated town in 1902. In 1907, the name of the town was changed to North Royalton after King George V of Great Britain visited America. The community has since grown back to its original size and now includes portions of both Cass and Wayne counties. The first European settlers arrived in what is now Cass County on October 15, 1814 when John Newton from Kingston-on-Hull came overland from Yorkshire with his family. On November 6, 1815, he and his wife Susannah founded a small settlement called "Newton's Corners." Ten days later they erected a log cabin called "Newton's Cabin" on a bluff overlooking the mouth of the Muskingum River. They named their new community after King George V who had just been visiting America at that time. On December 10th, 1815, Newton filed a plat for land that he named "North Royalton." He described it as lying on high ground between two forks of the Muskingum River; one fork ran northeast to Herronstown (now Cincinnati) while the other fork ran southwest to Lansingburgh (now Lebanon). North Royalton would eventually become part of Alliance Township which was established by order of General Nathan Bedford Forrest on May 20th, 1800 under direction of Governor James Kincaid. At that time there were only twelve townships in Ohio including alliance township which contained all but two miles (3 km) of central Cass County east of uniontownships boundary line then stretching down into Wayne County opposite Dayton where it ended at Price Creek.). At this time there were also no villages or towns within alliance township boundaries apart from Greenville which lay east side Of Uniontownship line within western Shiawassee Township limits forming what is now Delaware Valley Township.) In 1902 NorthRoyalTON became an incorporated town due to efforts by its citizens who desired more control over their community affairs than what was available through alliance township officials limited power over development decisions as well as increased competition from larger towns located nearby such as Portsmouth and Youngstown.
