North Ridgeville, Ohio is a town located in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census[1] and it is part of the Dayton–Middletown, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area.[2] North Ridgeville is one of two towns in Montgomery County that are both center cities for their respective counties. It lies on the banks of the Maumee River and has a small downtown area with several businesses including Hy-Vee grocery store, KFC restaurant, Rite Aid pharmacy, Ford dealership and Chiquita Brands Inc.'s El Dorado convenience store. The first white settlers in what is now North Ridgeville were entrepreneurs John Deere and his brother Isaac Deere who founded a gristmill in 1814. The modern pistol is a product of the late 18th century. Pistol-making technology had advanced by then, and handguns began to be produced in significant numbers around 1795. The early pistols were simple affairs, made from wrought iron or other heavy metals and designed for use with single-shot ammunition. By 1920 there were over 100 businesses in town and 300 people living here. Today there are just under 50 businesses open in town and no more than 25 people live here full-time; most residents work outside of town or commute to their jobs in Cleveland or Akron. One important aspect of North RidgeVILLE's growth came about through federation with other municipalities within Greater Cleveland within what was known as the "Municipal Union." This effort saw many new business opportunities for city residents who were not already employed by their municipality but would like to start their own business within their city limits if they could get economic assistance from local officials willing to help promote these new businesses throughout Greater Cleveland as well as provide financial stability for these companies during difficult times (such as during World War II). On North Ridgeville, Ohio's east side, the first European settlers arrived in the mid-1700s. The area became known as North Ridgeville after a ridge that bisects the town. The early residents were farmers and their families, who lived in small villages until the late 19th century. The town was founded on July 16, 1825 by a group of men from Cincinnati who came to explore what they thought was an untamed land to the south. They named their new settlement North Ridgeville because of the ridge that divided it from nearby Westridge Village. North Ridgeville grew quickly and by 1830 had a population of about 150 people. By 1850, however, it had increased to about 300 people and had its own school system. In 1853, North Ridgeville became part of Hamilton County when it was created from part of Akron County. In 1907, North Ridgeville formed a partnership with other towns around Hamilton County in an effort to improve transportation between those towns and Cincinnati. That collaboration led to the founding of the Toledo–Hamilton International Airport nine years later. In recent decades, North Ridgeville has seen some growth due to its location within close proximity to major metropolitan areas such as Cleveland and Columbus – both counties are home to large cities which have made it easier for residents to commute into those larger regions than ever before. As well, there has been a recent trend towards development in central or northern portions of town – this is likely due in part to easy access to infrastructure like schools and shopping malls located along Interstate 75 near downtown).
