In 1907, North Ridgeville became part of Trumbull County when it was organized from portions of Meigs and Union Counties. Today, Northridgeville occupies over 8 square miles (20 km2) within Trumbull County limits – more than any other municipality in that county! North Ridgeville is a town in Steuben County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Merrill Metropolitan Statistical Area. North Ridgeville was founded on December 12, 1812 by Enoch Pratt and James Robertson as a post office called "Newburgh". It was renamed to "North Ridgeville" on January 10, 1814. The first store in North Ridgeville opened in 1825. In 1827, the first school in North Ridgeville opened under the name of "Ridge View School". On February 11, 1830, North Ridgeville became a village and had its own government. On November 7, 1830, it became an incorporated town with a population of 2274. On April 17th 1861, during the American Civil War (1861-1865), Union General Ulysses S Grant's forces attacked Confederate General Robert Ewell's army at Horseshoe Bend near present-day Carroll Township; however during the battle only two men from North Ridgeville were killed and three wounded as a result of artillery fire from Union forces loyal to Grant while Ewell lost over 60 men dead and 500 captured or missing including several members of his staff who were also killed or captured. After the war ended, Northridgevillians voted to secede from Ohio due to state constitutional provisions that prohibited towns from seceding without their consent which they considered unconstitutional because their ancestors had fought for Ohio against British troops fighting for George Washington in 1775 when Ohio joined Confederation as part of Great Britain’s America empire after independence was declared; furthermore they felt that Pennsylvania’s decision not to secede did not reflect their wishes since they had donated land to Pennsylvania’s new statehood movement previous year and many residents living within Pennsylvania still remain today as Pennsylvanians are majority citizens within both states despite residing elsewhere before becoming citizens of one or more other states following secession). After voting on November 3rd township officials met and decided that all residents except those naturalized US citizens should leave until further notice regardless if they agreed with secession or not because there would be no way for them to get around state constitutional provisions which stated “a municipal corporation may not secede without written agreement between its inhabitants – but such incorporation may become extinct by dissolution unless continued by unanimous vote of all its members” The town charter which was adopted on this date provided for: Incorporation must be granted by an act Of The Legislature And Ratified By A Majority Of Its Members Present At A Meeting Held Inscribed Thereunto In Person Or By One Representative thereof Which Shall Be Announced Aforehand To All Who May Be Concerned; That Corporation Must Be Formed Into A Village Each Member To Have One Hundred acres ( forty five hectares) Of Land Residence Thereon With Polling Place Within Three Miles Sight thereof And No Other Property leased Out Nor Consent Given For More Than Three Years From The Date Of Incorporation Said Village May Lose Its Authority But If Continuously Governed By Men Engaged therein At All Times Equal To Ownership Then It Shall Remain An Independent County And Enjoy The same Rights As Any other County Subject To Our Laws And Taxes; Any Town Or Village Which Becomes Unlawful Under These Conditions shall be Dissolved immediatly Without Benefit To Their Members So Long As They Do Not Alter Their constitutions Or Choosing To Join Another County Within This State
