The North Olmsted Rifle and Pistol Club has been shooting since 1892. The club's first rifle was a muzzleloader, which it acquired from the local post office. The club began holding trap and skeet events in 1903. In 1907, the club purchased its first shotgun. handguns were not allowed at these events until 1912, when they were introduced by the NRA. In 1916, the North Olmsted Rifle and Pistol Club built their own facility, which they still use today. This facility included a firing range, a magazine room, an exercise yard, and a ballistics lab. The North Olmsted Rifle and Pistol Club also donated some of their equipment to other clubs across Ohio during World War I. In 1919-1920, the club developed a new style of pistol for use by members (the "Ohio Palfrey"). This pistol featured a 6-inch barrel with a .22 caliber bullet instead of the older .38 caliber bullet used in other pistols at that time. In 1923-1924, the North Olmsted Rifle and Pistol Club became affiliated with IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation). At this time, IPSC offered competition within Ohio as well as international competitions around the world. During this period of affiliation with IPSC, the North Olmsted Rifle and Pistol Club also developed rules for target shooting competitions within Ohio using IPSC methods of scoring. In 1930-1933, following World War II service in Europe on staff of General Motors Corporation's European headquarters in Geneva Switzerland where he was responsible for production operations in all GM plants worldwide; Steward came back stateside to take over management duties at NOPCC after Bob Simonson had retired due to health problems; Steward quickly turned around what was then considered an ineffective organization into one that produced high quality products while exhibiting strong community outreach programs which helped engage young shooters throughout Greater Cleveland area including membership growth from 2 active shooters to 10+ active shooters under his leadership by 1933 ..... Continued success led to establishment of National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) Board member Steward as CEO/President effective 1/1/1945 through 3/31/1950 ...." Steward led NSSF from inception until his death on May 17th 1950....... After Steward’s death NSSF continued under ownership by various private individuals until it was reorganized into Federation Of International Shoeball Associations effective July 15th 1959 ...."

In North Olmsted, Ohio, the city's first shooting range opened in 1924. It was closed in 1975 but reopened in 1983 as a center for firearms enthusiasts. In 1990, the city council voted to allow handguns on city property and the range reopened under that banner. The current facility has been open since 1993.
North Olmsted is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Holmes County. The population was 41,546 at the 2010 census; it had been 43,723 as of July 1, 2016. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton metropolitan area and is included in the Toledo–Muncie Combined Statistical Area. North Olmsted's economy is based on manufacturing, services, research and development, education, and other professional sectors. The first Europeans to see what today would be known as North Olmsted were Frenchmen who arrived in 1692 while exploring what is now northeastern Ohio looking for a route to Canada. They named their new discovery "Nouvelle-Orléans" (New Orleans). A group of Swedish pioneers under Captain Erik Gustafsson landed on an island near present-day North Olmsted in 1701 during his migration from Sweden to America as part of the Great Lakes Expedition. From this point forward until 1813 there was continuous Swedish settlement west of Lake Erie including what is now North Olmsted Township and most notably Sandusky Township east of Mentor Avenue on which later was built the first gristmill in America – that still stands today at 1010 West Mentor Avenue – making it one of only a few townships in Ohio that has its own mill dating back to before 1840! In 1814 Napoleon Bonaparte conquered much of Europe but did not invade America so when he left France he left behind a large American military garrison which included over 4500 soldiers living offal from Fort Niagara! In order to provide food for these troops General David Stockbridge decided to settle some refugees from Illinois into two square miles called "Sandusky", bounded by Ottawa Street on the north, Maple Street on the south and Muskegon Avenue on the east side! This location would become home to many families over time with important businesses such as grocery stores continuing operations even after annexation by Cleveland!! 1st generation: John Stratton born about 1715/16; 2nd generation: James Stratton born about 1725/26; 3rd generation: Abigail Stratton (1729-1811) married Samuel Pierson around 1760; 4th generation: Jeremiah Stratton (1761-1851) married Sarah Greenough (1762-1840) around 1800; 5th generation: Israel Stratton (1800-1873) married Nancy Haggerty about 1808

North Olmsted, Ohio was founded by the E.B. Morrill Land Grant Act of 1862, and named for George Washington's Mount Olivet estate in Virginia. The area now makes up the city of North Olmsted, along with its villages of Ashville, Mayfield Heights, and Brockton. The town was laid out in 1836 by Samuel Hixon and others under the direction of Surveyor General John Cushing. By 1850, over a thousand people lived in North Olmstedsquare square miles surrounded by forested hills. In 1861, gold was discovered near Wabash River and within a year the town had doubled in size to 1,500 people as prospectors began streaming into the area for new Canaan Gold Mines (later Rush Mining Company). The townsfolk built their first courthouse on Elm Street in 1866-67 when Judge Benjamin Fenton completed construction from scratch using slave labor. The Panic of 1893 put an end to gold mining activity around North Olmsted but not before many homes were built that still stand today including Hixon's old millrace office building and Post Office Building No. 2 which is also a local landmark; Park Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church where Reverend James Stillman preached his last sermon; Union Carbide Company plant No. 1 on West Ottawa Avenue; two blocks northwest of present day Superior Avenue Naming rights were given to these properties by Densmore Electric Cooperative Association vaults at 4653 West Ottawa Avenue on November 3rd 1922
North Olmsted was first settled in 1792. It became a town in 1825 and became a city in 1903.
