North Olmsted is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Lucas County. The population was 42,865 at the 2010 census, making it the fifth-largest city in Ohio and one of its eight counties. North Olmsted is located on the southern edge of Cleveland, just east of Lake Erie. The area that now makes up North Olmsted was settled by Native Americans before European settlement began in the late 17th century. In 1801, a group led by John Adams purchased land from the Wyandot people and founded what would become North Olmsted as a town. On July 6, 1818, after seeing an advertisement for land grants in The Cincinnati Journal, Adams approached his friend James Kapp and offered to buy 1/4 mile (1 km) of coal mining acreage from him for $5 per tonne (2 kg). Kapp accepted and organized a group to purchase 320 acres (120 ha) from Nicholas Wilkinson for $10 per acre (4 ha). The first town meeting was held on October 4, 1818. In 1840, after American independence was granted to the United States, North Olmsted became part of newly formed Ohio Territory following West Virginia's admission into Confederation as part of that state. The territory included all present-day Lucas County except parts of Medina and Lorain Counties north of Akron; those towns were annexed into Cleveland within two years after their incorporation into Cleveland County. When Cleveland County was created in 1896 out of portions of Cuyahoga and Summit Counties southward along Interstate 90 toward Detroit, most residents in these northernmost suburbs voted to become part of Cleveland rather than stay within Lucas County which they saw as more conservatively Republican leaning than their counterparts in South Euclid or Arlington Heights across river on opposite sides of I-90 near downtown Toledo also resided within Lucas County bounds until 1951 when they too were annexationisty placed within Greater Cleveland through Plain Dealer legislation On February 14, 1904 – during term limits for Mayor Agnew – Mayor George Prentice directed City Manager Fenton "to take possession...of all public buildings now standing vacant" including City Hall Annexe then known as Municipal Building No 3 due to its current location at 715 Superior Ave., since Mayors office had moved to 1514 Superior Avenue between 1902–1904 being vacated by Commissioners Chambers building addition built adjacent thereto When Mayor Daley took office onJanuary 3rd 1993 over William Jealous who resigned effective November 30th 1992 he immediately started tearing down many older abandoned buildings throughout Downtown Dearborn taken down starting with Municipal building number Three next door which he razed early morning hours on January 5th 1993 leaving only four small windows still exposed inside still used today primarily for storage
