North Olmsted, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Sylvania County. The population was 27,811 at the 2010 census, making it the tenth-largest city in Ohio. The city is located on the southern edge of the Greater Cleveland area, bordered by Lake Erie to the east and southwest and Medina County to the west. The first permanent settler in what would become North Olmsted was James Caldwell in 1795. Caldwell's land lay along present-day Streetsboro Avenue and Park Row on both sides of Lake Erie; he named his tract "Olmsted Place." A year later, Caldwell sold 4 acres (1 km2) of his land east ofpresent-day Central Avenue to Peter Kapp for $200 (£99). In 1802, John Stephenson bought 2/3 acre (0.81 km2) from Kapp for $150 (£89). By 1812, Stephenson had built a log cabin near present-day Water Tower Place on his farmstead known as "Hancock House", which served as a stop on stagecoaches between Cleveland and Cincinnati. During this time period there were no paved roads or sidewalks in OH! Only dirt roads ran through most small towns so travelers had to use whatever means possible - including wagons - to get where they wanted to go! In 1821, General David Hunter decided that a new town should be established in central Stark County due to increasing population growth rates throughout that region; he selected North Olmsted as its site. At first few buildings were erected but soon citizens started construction of homes and businesses including: a schoolhouse (1824), gristmill (1826), Masonic Lodge No 1 (1829), sawmill (1830), bank building (1831), Presbyterian Church (1832), Methodist Episcopal Church No 1 & 2(1833–34), warehouse building & three stores ( 1835–36). On July 9th 1836 local residents elected Andrew Jourdan Mayor with 30 seconds remaining until midnight; Jourdan became the first African American mayor in America! During World War II North Olmsted was home to several factories manufacturing munitions such as: Ford Motor Company(1941–1945); Textron Aviation Division(1946); Crayola Schools Inc.(1948–49); Raytheon Missile Division(1950); United States Army Ammunition Plant(1951). Due primarily to its location within reach of many major military plants across northeastern Ohio it sustained heavy attack during World War II with incendiary bombings raids by B-29s over Cleveland beginning on April 15th 1942 followed by strategic bombing raids towards Detroit ending on September 14th 1945 after which Point Clear Naval Air Station became operational providing air support for amphibious operations against Japan from 1946 until 1949 when all aircraft were retired from service effective January 1st 1950 . Aftermath left entire downtown destroyed leaving only one block accessible due largely to advances in demolition technology!!! Today much has been restored however some parts still remain vacant!!!

They also built a school and started to sell goods to other towns in the area. By 1852, North Olmsted had a population of around 100 people. The city grew rapidly during the 1850s and 1860s, thanks to its growing economy and its location on the Great Lakes region. In 1870, North Olmsted became the first city in Ohio to be incorporated as a municipality. The city's growth continued through the years, reaching its peak earlier this century with a population of over 1,500 people. However, economic recession throughout much of the 21st century has led to some decline in North Olmsted's population and economy.
