The history of binoculars in North Olmsted, Ohio starts with a Mr. John Fenton who opened a store on the corner of High and Main Streets in 1876. In 1902, Mr. Fenton's son, Harry, took over the business and continued to sell binoculars until his death in 1957. In 1961, Harry's wife Mrs. Gertrude Fenton took over the business and continued to sell binoculars until her death in 1984. The current owners are Mrs. Ann Marie Kappenberger and their son Michael Fenton Jr.. As of 2009, they have been selling binoculars since 1978!
North Olmsted, Ohio is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Cuyahoga County. The population was 53,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. North Olmsted was founded by German immigrants in 1814 and became a city in 1902. It is now an agricultural center with some heavy manufacturing activity as well as educational institutions including The Taft School of Art and Design, Case Western Reserve University, and North Central Ohio University. The area that would become North Olmsted was first settled by Native Americans in the late eighteenth century. They were later displaced by English colonists who began to arrive in large numbers during the Revolutionary War. In 1792, General George Washington appointed Nicholas de la Salle as commander of Fort Pitt on what is now Union Hill in present-day North Olmsted Township; de la Salle built a fur trading post here that changed hands multiple times before it came into American ownership around 1800. In 1814, German settlers arrived from Germany via Wards Ferry Lake and started to move into what would become present-day Cuyahoga County; they were soon followed by other European immigrants who continued to settle until about 1880 when most Germans left for economic reasons. Many of these early settlers had purchased land around today's village of Westlake Village specifically because it offered excellent farming prospects; this led to development around what are now downtown streets such as Greenwich Street and Sheffield Avenue while smaller parcels continued to be developed further out until eventually all but one block west of Prospect Avenue were part of the city limits by 1900s In 1901, when Cleveland became an independent city under charter granted by Congress, North Olmsted became its second municipal stronghold after Independence Hill/Whitehall Township; at that time it consisted mostly (but not exclusively) of rural farmland east of Present Day 264th Street between Mentor Road and Euclid Avenue while Whitehall Township lay west along I-71 which divided Cleveland then into two parts – an eastern edge near Ashtabula River while western boundaries ran along Fourth Street (now Washington Boulevard) – with only a small amount remaining within town limits To accommodate this growth northward on Indianola Road (present day Stevenson Road), many homes were built near current day Stillwater Drive where much later Oakwood Cemetery would be located On December 12th 1907 Mayor John Husted approved plans for annexation by Akron due primarily to increased industrial production southtownwest from Alliance Mills caused by new access highways Interstate 71 being completed just eastof US Route 66 junction OSHA inspected local breweries for potential violations starting on January 1st 1908 yielding 8 citations totalling $4 per establishment plus fines totaling $100 each

The first European to visit what is now North Olmsted was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1608 on his expedition led by John Eliot. The explorer erected a stockade at the confluence of five waterways – today's Delaware River and four other streams – to secure passage for his men and supplies before continuing upriver to Lake Erie. In 1803–04 Daniel Webster explored this region for western United States land grant seekers during his presidential campaign against James Ketchum Jr., then governor of Michigan Territory (later Michigan). In 1825 George Stephenson built an electric street railway from Cleveland overland to Akron; he became known as "the Father Of Railway Life." A mill town sprang up around it and grew into an important industrial center during its heyday between 1880 and 1920s when many heavy industries such as locomotives, automobiles and shipbuilding were located there including: Alcoa Steel Works (now US Steel), Canastore Coal Company (now Nabisco), Ford Motor Company plants that manufactured cars and trucks throughout much of America until they closed in 1976., General Electric Appliances (nowGE Appliances), P&G Chemicals Division (P&G)USA headquarters building with its iconic white eagle logo still visible on Fifth Avenue after more than sixty years since it moved out west following divestiture from GEChinatown USA Headquarters Building once occupied by Jaffe’s Cigar Stores - all demolished except for their foundations where you can see two large concrete pylons supporting a red brick façade that used to house what appears to be an early warning radar system mounted atop one or both towers... . . . When I visited in 2006 equipment from those days still sat abandoned on site next to what appear to be large old oil drums marked “Contractor—North Olmsted”… It would not surprise me if some day someone finds evidence that these were indeed Radar Towers used back in those days.. The city was founded on May 6th 1837 when Nathaniel Dunham platted what is today north side streets near present day High Street/Route 518 & Delaware River Road intersection - current location being east side streets between High Street NW & Delaware River Road SE cornering present day Canal Rd/High St SE - lots lying undisturbed along river banks west side streets between riverside homes east side streets between canal & highway
The first people to live in North Olmsted were the Wyandots. The Wyandots had a village on the Scioto River, which was destroyed by a fire in 1795. The first white person to live in North Olmsted was John Hartsfield, who came to the area in 1814. In 1819, George Stephenson built his railroad route through North Olmsted and started selling goods from his depot at Lake Erie. This helped make North Olmsted a growing community and led to its growth as an agricultural center.
