North Canton is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,619 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton metropolitan area. North Canton is located on the southern edge of the greater Akron metropolitan area and its boundaries are defined by I-75 to the north, US 131 to the east, and Lake Erie to the south. The town's ZIP code is 44705. The town was laid out in 1824 by John Prentice and named for George Canton, an officer in Congress during the War of 1812. The first settler in what became North Canton was Lewis Green who built a cabin on what is now Fairview Road in 1827. By 1830 there were twenty five houses in what are now North Canton and Parkersburg Township. In 1834 President Andrew Johnson visited North Canton and ordered that all public land be sold to raise money for military campaigns against Mexico On July 1st 1840, when Ohio became a state, North Canton had a population of 539 people; it grew rapidly due to waves of European immigration which began with German settlers from Steubenville (now Marietta) arriving in 1840 followed by Irish immigrants from County Carlow soon thereafter In 1847 local resident Reuben Hinshaw organized a local militia company known as "The First battalion" after his hometown's first regiment (the Irish Brigade). A second battalion was organized two years later and called "The Second battalion". As businesses opened up along Telegraph Road starting around 1850 many residents started moving into new neighborhoods such as Parkersburg Heights which were developed along high ground between Clear Creek Valley west of Interstate 75 and Euclid Avenue north of Highland Avenue From 1861 until 1865 federal troops stationed at Camp Chase Barracks fought off Confederate raids into northwestern Ohio while most residents remained loyal to the Union On November 15th 1863 General Order No 1 blasted through northeast Stark County ordering all men over 17 years old who did not have adequate work or suitable locations within one week to leave their homes accompanied by their fathers or other male relatives ready for indentured servitude under whatever terms may be offered These orders went unenforced as most men chose instead to stay home rather than leave their families behind While some men did travel away they made sure never too much distance separated them from loved ones back home including numerous reunions held every season throughout 2013 across Clinton Twp., Fairview Heights/North Parkersburg Rd., Midvale Village & beyond Thanksgiving weekend

North Canton, Ohio is a small town in the US state of Ohio. The population was 5,857 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Stark County. North Canton's history dates back to 1814 when it was part of an area that became Northwest Territory when the United States acquired Oregon from France. The first permanent settler in what would become North Canton was John Sinclair, who arrived in 1814 and named his land after Sir George Washington as part of a land deal made during the American Revolution. In 1825, James Atherton platted what would become North Canton on the east bank of Little Cuyahoga River. The plat included a square mile (1 km²) for public use and another square mile (1 km²) for private settlement by citizens who subscribed to local government. Development continued slowly until 1830, when Alexander McKeen built a gristmill onthe north side of the river and began to process cottonseed straw into flour. By 1840, there were five stores and fifty-six residents in what would become North Canton. By 1850, there were twenty-one stores and one thousand residents in what would become Stark County. In 1870, Northern Illinois Railway constructed its first line through Stark County, making it possible for farmers to shipment their goods directly to Chicago via rail instead of shipping them overland
In 1807, the Township of North Canton was organized. The township had a population of seventy-one people and was located in what is now Stark County. On March 14, 1810, the Township of North Canton was renamed to Delaware Township. On November 25, 1814, Delaware Township became part of Stark County when it was created from portions of neighboring Portage Township. The county had a population of one thousand people and thirty seven townships. On October 1, 1817, Newark School opened in Delaware Township for grades K-12 under the name Newark Academy. It would remain open until 1916 when it became West Chester Day School. On December 4, 1830, Delaware Township made up part of the new “Summit County” government which consisted of all of Stark and Lawrence counties with their respective townships within it. This government would be dissolved on July 1st, 1831 due to lackadaisicalness by some members who did not want to move closer to Cleveland while still keeping control over their individual townspeople/township boundaries
