The targets were hanged from a post with a sling, and the shooters would shoot at them with cannons or pistols. In 1901, an American manufacturer named Golden Gate Manufacturing Company produced the first steel shooting target holders which could be hung from a beam with nails or staples. These holders became popular because they allowed shooters to travel outdoors without having to worry about getting their weapons wet. The Shooting Target Holder Company was purchased by Golden Gate Manufacturing Company in 1916. In 1922, Golden Gate Manufacturing Company merged with another American company, National Shooting Supply Co., Inc., which continued production of shooting targets until the late 1960s when it ceased all operations due to dwindling demand for the product.
North Canton, Ohio is a small town located in the southern section of the state of Ohio. The population was 7,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. North Canton's history goes back to 1810 when it was part of the Miami County district. In 1814, it became a part of Adams County and in 1835, it became a part of Stark County. In 1907, North Canton was incorporated as a village and then an enlarged city in 1927. As an enlarged city, North Canton had more autonomy than any other municipality within the Columbus metropolitan area. The present-day city of North Canton began to form around 1830 when Englishman John Cranch erected a log cabin on land he had purchased from the Delaware River Indian tribe known as the Scioto Bandits. The first settler in what is now North Canton was Nathan Edwards who arrived in 1830 with his family from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Edwards built a cabin on what is now Elm Street and named it "North Canton." He also developed land around his cabin which eventually included much of what is today downtown North Canton. In 1840, Simon Cameron came to America and landed at Logansport on Lake Erie with his family for unknown reasons. He established himself near where he would later build his home called Cameron Hall or simply "Cameron Place." After years of probate battles over ownership rights to this property (and others) between various claimants, Cameron's deathbed instruction to his son John led to development around this house that continues today: One side of Main Street runs directly into Cameron Hall; two blocks north lies ramps leading up from I-70 onto Old National Highway/US Route 421; while another block east leads down into Market Square shopping district located just south of Harrison Road/State Route 422). This unique development pattern has resulted in onefamous restaurant name - Paul Revere's - originating right outside your door! This rich vein of American history can be found throughout muchof central Ohio thanks to numerous missions operated by Franciscan monks starting in 1606 including StIgnatius Abbey in Defiance Township and serving as a place where many wealthy Europeans could come for religious contemplation during their tour through America.(see list below) On July 8th 1790 most likely after being inspired by hearing about General George Washington's march through Boston during that same year’s Drury Lane Theater extravaganza conducted by James Kapp before Parliamentarian troops under Benedict Arnold landed nearby at Morrissey Landing , LtCol Arthur Stedman erectedthe first white building on Main Street (now Elm) .Thursday night November 12th 1800 Reverend Nathaniel Greene officiated at dedication ceremonies for new Presbyterian Church opening its doors promising “a settlement for every man”and paying $5 per capita tax ...........

The area now known as North Canton was first settled by the Shawnee in the late 1700s. The town was founded on the site of an old trading post, which was established by a group of traders from Kentucky in 1795. In 1814, the United States acquired ownership of what is now Ohio from Britain, and North Canton became part of the new state. The town's population grew rapidly during the 19th century, and it became an important commercial center for southern Ohio. It remained an agricultural community until after World War II, when its economy shifted to manufacturing. Since then, North Canton has become a highly urbanized community with a strong emphasis on education and technology.
