Gun security history in North Canton, Ohio began with the establishment of the first Firearms Enforcement Division (FED) in 1916. The FED was tasked with enforcing Ohio law prohibiting the carrying of firearms without a license. In 1948, the FED was renamed the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCI). Registrations were required by law until 1923 when they were repealed as part of the New Deal program. In 1933, Congress pass the National Firearms Act which regulates firearms and requires licensing and registration for all gun owners in America. Registration is still required today under federal law as per Title 22 USC § 922(a).
North Canton is a city in the Ohio Valley region of the United States. The population was 49,868 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat for Lorain County. North Canton was founded in 1824 by General George Washington and settlers from what is now Delaware Township. In 1827, it became a town, and in 1836 it became a city. The city was named after North Canton, England, where General Washington had been born in 1765. In 1920, North Canton received its charter as a state capital; it has since been moved to Dayton multiple times. The current location of North Canton is on the border of Lorain and Summit Counties, and its economic base includes manufacturing and services such as education and health care services. Downtown businesses include banks, restaurants, shopping malls, hotels and office buildings. Additionally there are several professional sports franchises located in or around North Canton including Port HurON (baseball), Cleveland Browns (football), Toledo Walnuts (basketball), and Akron RubberDucks (hockey).
In the wake of the Newtown, Conn., shootings in December 2012, Congress considered a bill that would have made it more difficult for people with mental illness to get firearms. The measure failed to pass. In February 2013, President Obama called for changes to gun laws after the shooting at an Oregon movie theater that left two people dead and thirteen wounded. After the movie theater shooting, many Americans began discussing how easy it is for someone with mental illness to obtain a firearm. Gun control advocates saw this as an opportunity to push forward their campaign against gun violence, while gun rights advocates saw the president’s call as another example of government overreach into personal liberties. Despite calls from both sides of the aisle for reform, no major changes were made to gun laws in 2013 or 2014. This lack of action may be due in part to a number of factors: Gun control advocates still feel that they have won the battle against handguns but are struggling to win the war against assault rifles and other high-capacity firearms; NRA lobbyists continue to argue that any restrictions on guns will not stop mass shootings; and lawmakers are busy working on other pressing issues such as passing a budget and providing relief to millions of Americans who have lost their jobs since November 2014.

The Act was designed to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and others who might be using them to endanger public safety. It also required all Firearms dealers to obtain a license from the government.
North Canton is a small town in Lorain County, Ohio, United States. The population was 521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton Combined Statistical Area. North Canton is located on the southern edge of Lorain County and east of Akron. The town was founded in 1824 by James Dickson and others as a post office named for Canton, England. In 1828, it became a village under the jurisdiction of Stark Township. On May 1, 1829, North Canton incorporated as a city with a population of 100. On December 12, 1835, it became an agricultural district within Stark Township but reverted to its township status on October 15, 1840. The first school in North Canton was built in1827 by Rev. Drury and taught by Mrs. Gamble; it burned down in 1830 but was rebuilt and operated until 1886 when it closed due to lack of funding. In 1852–53 Jno Cbusine served as mayor pro tem during vacancy caused by murder trial that began on November 8 that year in which Harvey Cushing (a native of North Canton) testified against his brother George Cushing (a resident of neighboring Uniontown). A new courthouse was built on High Street between Main and State streets (now called University Drive) and opened February 24, 1954; this building still stands today as the old cantonal library headquarters complex known locally simply as “the library” or “Lorain County Library Building” although much newer structures have been erected since then inside what is now Chaim Weizmann Hall at Case Western Reserve University just off High Street). The town served as the capital of Ohio from 1795 to 1800 and then again from 1801 to 1812. In 1815, Ohio became a United States state and Canton became its capital.
