On July 6, 1848, when OSHA moved its headquarters from Canonsburg to Cleveland due to concerns about accidents at mines and mills near Akron, north Canton had an idea and began building barracks for workers at nearby Gossamer Mills which soon became world-renowned for their quality cotton fabrics. At this point development slowed as people increasingly turned towards milling less hazardous materials such as oil instead of fabric production During World War II many factories closed down including Gossamer Mills while others produced munitions including General Motors plants building B-29s and P-51 Mustangs during the conflict After the war many factories reopened but with more stringent safety regulations most closed again over the next few decades until they all went out of business except one which still operates today: Wernher Martin Company that produces computer cases
