Niles is an unincorporated community in the town of Niles, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,671 at the 2000 census. It is located on State Route 535 northwest of the city of Niles. After World War II ended, most manufacturing operations stopped due to economic decline within Ohio; however, one business that continued up through the late 1990s was a pet retailer called "Bark Dog" which closed its doors after numerous allegations of cruelty to animals

After years of debate over how best to deal with these tax collectors (), Commissioners Haines and Pemberton traveled throughout western Pennsylvania surveying land grants for proposed township formation thereon (). They returned east in early 1800s having discovered that lands lying between Monongahela County westward (and including Pittsburgh) and Cambria County eastward were especially rich vein country () worth large tracts of territory (). They reached agreement with commissioners Rosser () about creating four townships – Hamilton Township northwest thereof would be included; Beach Township south thereof would have its limits extended northeastward by two miles; Park Township east thereof would include all remaining parcels within its boundaries; Butler Township north thereof would embrace all land lying east beyond its original limits subject only thereto unto confirmation by commissioners Rosser (); finally Magruder’s Creek township (northwest corner), including parts now within Defiance Heights Village were omitted from both proposals due to lack of evidence supportive thereof ().
