On February 17, 1916, Niles was the site of one of the most significant gun cases in Ohio history. Between September 1914 and May 1915, six men were indicted for violating the National Firearms Act by manufacturing and selling handguns without a license. The case became known as the "Niles Six." The defendants were: James P. Fenton, Harry H. Beach, George W. Burtons, John Cavanaugh, Alfred J. McCarthy and Joseph Heffernan. Each man was charged with four counts of making a machinegun without a license and two counts of producing a machinegun without a license. The trial began on November 8, 1916 and ended on December 5th after only five days of testimony. The defendants were found guilty on all but one charge and were sentenced to prison terms of up to ten years each or hard labor at an industry fairitentiary in Springfield, Illinois. The verdict set offa firestorm of protest in Ohio that continued until 1918 when President Woodrow Wilson signed the Brady Bill into law which made it easier for people to buy firearms with identification cards rather than having to go through government channels.
Niles, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Clinton County. As of The 2015 American Community Survey, Niles had a population of 33,751. The median household income was $48,414 and the median family income was $60,671. In 2014, Forbes listed Niles as one of "America's Best Places to Work". The area that would become Niles was first settled by Native Americans in the late 18th century as part of the Northwest Territory claimed by Great Britain. In 1795, when Niles became a town in Clinton County, it was located on land grant from George Washington. The area now comprising Niles was included within Clinton Township until 1824 when it detached from township to form its own municipality. In 1834, John Stephenson built his cabin on what is now State Route 22 near present-day First National Bank building (now home to Harrison Ford's investment firm). Stephenson operated a sawmill and gristmill here for over 50 years before he sold them to Thomas Brady in 1865. By 1870, Brady had also built a blacksmith shop and two stores at what is now Second National Bank; these stores remain open today as Brady’s grocery store and gas station. With increased railroad traffic along the main line into Cincinnati through central Ohio during this time period led by entrepreneur John Dennison—nicknamed “the locomotive king”—Brady quickly realized that he could make money selling goods bought with cash advances from passengers traveling on trains between Cincinnati and Cleveland or Buffalo (New York). He took advantage of this opportunity to build up an inventory of merchandise that he could offer at lower prices than other retailers because he knew that people travelling long distances usually carried less supplies with them than they did when they were visiting smaller towns or cities closer to their homes basecamp where they could purchase goods at local tradeshows sponsored by merchants who either manufactured or processed products locally for sale onsite at their businesses or stored their product in warehouses nearby for later sale should demand exceed available stock. Dennison’s business acumen allowed him to build not only one but several large brick buildings which still stand today at 4402 E Broad Ripple Rd., across from First National Bank (later renamed S&P 500 Index) just off I-71/I-271 west of downtown Cincinnati – allowing him two full blocks east of State Route 22 which became known as “Dennison Square” due to his extensive real estate holdings there including: four hotels/motels – all located inside Dennison Square; ten acres(0 hectares) site currently occupied by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company; additional acreage north adjacent Cemetery Road; retail development anchored around three large department stores originally planned but never constructed called Fairmount Plaza II - mall anchor tenant Sears - opened in 1984 followed by JCPenney - anchors anchor Kmart - opened in 1987 Additional acreage south adjacent Stadium Drive has been developed into modern day University Village developments containing approximately 2 million square feet (190 thousand square meters) Class A office space under construction currently scheduled for completion early 2018 adjacent Interstate 71 / I-271 exit ramps providing convenient access both inside University Village developments as well as out onto I-71 / I-271 An additional 1 million square feet (290 thousand square meters) Class A office space will be developed adjacent former Speedway Motorsports Park site within University Village developments currently scheduled for completion early 2020

Niles, Ohio is a town located in Niles County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,629 at the 2010 census. The town was founded on December 1, 1814 by David Niles and his family. It became a city on November 15, 1907. Niles is one of five cities in the Greater Cleveland area that are part of the Cleveland–Akron-Canton Combined Statistical Area. The first settlers to Niles were David and Susannah Niles who established a farmstead on what is now Mill Creek Road east of present day downtown Niles. Their children built the first homes in what is now downtown Niles –David’s house (later known as the State Capitol), Susannah’s house (now known as the City Hall), and John and Esther Halleck’s house (now home to L&L Waste Management). All three houses still stand today with new additions over time. On December 1st 1814, David and Susannah Niles set out from their farmstead for what would become Niles, taking with them two cows and four horses to start a new life in this new community which would soon grow into one of America's most vibrant local economies. By 1865 they had 7 families living in their township: 4 boys and 3 girls; 2 farmers; 1 blacksmith; plus 2 slaves who worked off their masters' crops during harvesttime. In 1907 when Cleveland became an organized city Limits Act municipality it annexed portions of Holmesburg Township including parts of mill creek road east of present day downtown nile along with other surrounding townships including Holmesburg Heights annexation on May 5th 1907 becoming village Of Holmesburg With land boundaries changing back around 1912 again giving us our current location We have been here since then
In 1801, Niles was founded by John Niles and his family. By 1821, the town had a population of 640. It was named for General George Washington Niles. The first store in Niles opened in 1825. In 1840, the Ohio Central Railroad arrived in Niles and made it a hub for trade with the Midwest. The town's population grew to 2,000 by 1860. Niles became an agricultural center during the 1870s with its area becoming one of the most fertile in the region. With increased production came increased demand for goods and services from surrounding towns and cities. A cotton gin began operating in Niles in 1886 and helped increase localeconomic growth until 1911 when it closed due to lack of demand. The decline of agriculture led to a loss of jobs as well as falling revenues that forced downtown businesses to close or move out of reach for many residents beginning in the 1920s. Eventually, downtown Niles served as only a ghost town until developer Carlisle Corporation built new neighborhoods on top of older buildings around 1960-1962 which revived downtown business activity and brought back some old buildings while also creating new cultural attractions like Art Museum & Gallery, Cleveland Clinic hospital, University Hill Park Zoo and more
